Story
Milla has always felt alone in the world. The only child of a distant mother, she has no other family, and even her forthcoming marriage to Paul feels more like settling than true romance. But then a letter arrives, announcing that a Spanish grandmother she knew nothing about has died and left her a small shop in Mallorca. Milla is determined to uncover the truth. She travels to Palma, where she is enchanted by the beauty of the old town in springtime. At the shop she now owns, she meets Leandro, a handsome local who helps her piece together the story of her grandmother.
Summary
Wrested back to Cabarita Beach by her grandmother's sudden death, Kate Summer discovers a mystery buried in the past that changes everything.
Kate returns home to the sleepy hamlet of Cabarita Beach and the run-down Waratah Inn for her grandmother's funeral. She spent many happy childhood years at the inn, but all she wants to do now is sell the dilapidated boutique inn and head back to the city and her busy, professional life. But she and her two estranged sisters discover they've inherited the inn together. To sell, they need all three sisters to agree to the sale.
Soon, her carefully constructed life begins to unravel and Kate decides to stay in Cabarita Beach to renovate the elegant, old building. Despite her misgivings about reviving the crumbling structure, she quickly becomes consumed with crown moulding, history and an attractive horse wrangler she can't seem to ignore.
When she discovers a clue to a mystery from the past in her grandmother's things, she'll be drawn down a path that raises more questions than answers. Piece by piece she and her sisters will uncover the secret former life of their beloved grandmother. A life of love, intrigue, and loss. A life they never knew she had.
An opportunity to sell the Inn pushes them to make a choice: commit to the Waratah Inn and family, or walk away from the Inn and each other, back to their separate and isolated lives.

Waratah Inn
This is my first book by this author. I overall liked it, but felt that in some places it was overly descriptive and it didn’t need to be and it lengthened the book quite a bit. I didn’t know it was a series either, so be prepared to need to read the other books to find out what happens.

Family ties that strengthen, not bind
Having lost my father two weeks ago and experiencing the bonding that can take place between sisters as they process their grief together, this audiobook truly spoke to me. The three Summer sisters are brought back together in this story by the sudden death of their grandmother--the woman who raised them after their parents died. As they share memories and discover secrets, they uncover more mysteries about their family's past than answers. Yet, they pull together to sort through it all. And they used that time to take their grandparent's legacy and make it their own, something that none of them could have done without the others. Life is certainly made sweeter by those we share it with; not just spouses or lovers, but siblings and friends as well. And this book definitely celebrates all that life has to offer, both in terms of heartache and love. I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series!

My kind of book!
The death of their Gran brings three estranged sisters together at the inn where they were raised after the death of their parents. As they work through decisions about keeping the inn running and cleaning up some of Gran's things, Kate unearths a series of journals kept by Gran where the women learn that not all was as it seemed in their Gran's life. There are flashbacks of Gran's early life with her parents and her relationship with her boyfriend. Kate takes a lesson from her Gran and decides to stay away from love, until she learns more about her Gran's past. I loved the story of Gran and the war and also loved how the three sisters changed their mind about the Inn by the end of the book and how Kate changed and grew throughout the story. Beware, you will want to listen to book 2 and then 3 to hear the entire story about Gran. This book ends with many questions left unanswered that get answered in the next books. The narrator was enjoyable to listen to and her interpretation of the characters and story seems spot on. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

The Waratah Inn is a fabulous book with an intriguing storyline. I enjoyed the flashbacks to grandmother’s story as the girls learned more about their family. The descriptions of the characters and settings are vivid and easy to picture. The characters are interesting and realistic and the story is well performed by the narrator. Beautiful Story!
This is the first book in The Waratah Inn Series, a women's fiction. Three estranged sisters, Kate, Reeda and Bindi, are called back to their hometown when their grandmother died. This first book is centered around Kate's story. This is a beautifully written story. I loved it! The back and forth, from her Grandmother's past, and Kate's present, is well done and fascinating. The storyline is original, and filled with secrets, and intrigue. The scenery is wonderful. Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Series, One Summer in Italy, Reeda's story. I can't wait to know what will happen next. Brigid Lohrey did a geat job with the narration. She has a beautiful voice.
