Lama Yeshe didn't see a car until he was 15 years old. In his quiet village, he and other children ran in fields with yaks and mastiffs. The rhythm of life was anchored by the pastoral cycles. Food was carefully apportioned and eaten together, everyone was family. The arrival of Chinese army cars one day in 1959 changed everything. In the wake of the deadly Tibetan Uprising, he escaped to India through the Himalayas to start over as a refugee.

Brilliant, mystical, pragmatic and witty, some have called Chuang Tsu the world's first anarchist. Even 2,000 years after his death, this provocative Taoist text remains in the forefront of ancient Chinese philosophical study. A companion to the Tao Te Ching, Chuang Tsu: Inner Chapters is a spiritual classic in its own right and a source book second only to the Tao Te Ching in importance in the Taoist canon. The sublime prose serves as a profound and paradoxical commentary to the Tao Te Ching.

The most translated book in the world after the Bible, the Tao Te Ching, or “Book of the Tao,” is a guide to cultivating a life of peace, serenity, and compassion. Through aphorisms and parable, it leads readers toward the Tao, or the “Way”: harmony with the life force of the universe. Traditionally attributed to Lao-tzu, a Chinese philosopher thought to have been a contemporary of Confucius, it is the essential text of Taoism, one of the three major religions of ancient China.

For Eckhart Tolle, meditation shouldn't be approached as a chore or a means to an end. Rather, meditation is something that you live. "The aim of meditation," states Eckhart, "is that it eventually becomes your normal state of consciousness." Essential Meditations with Eckhart Tolle points the way toward this quiet, constant state of Presence - where practice gives way to the realization of your innermost identity.

A biographical narrative that traces the life of the Chinese mystic Saihung Kwan. The story follows Kwan's training in martial arts, qigong, herbalism, and other traditional Chinese practices, from the time he was a boy living in Taoist monasteries in the 1920s through the horrors of Japan's invasion of China in the 1930s. Throughout the story, Taoist teachings are interwoven with fantastic stories set among exotic locales. This is a book that has been beloved for years by those interested in Eastern medicine, and performer Ronin Wong's deep voice makes for a satisfying listen.

Great read
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a great book. What initially interested me in reading this was statements by author and my interest in both Daoism and Chinese martial arts. The story follows the life of a young boy who eventually becomes a monk at HuaShan on his journey towards enlightenment. It is both informative and entertaining. At times it reads like a childrens fairytale. I'm glad I purchased it. A must for anyone who practices Chinese Martial Arts... especially the Daoist practices like Tai Chi.
What did you like best about this story?
Great story.
Which character – as performed by Ronin Wong – was your favorite?
The reader did a great job with all the characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I listened to it at half speed. I believe it took me about 3 days during work hours. Back forth between this and other audio books.
Any additional comments?
I will purchase more by this author.

nothing new in the tao
we're inundated with stories of men who follow the 'way.' it is tiresome to read yet another about a man who's a martial artist, scholar, peasant who's grown out of adversity or some such. A man who's taken menial labor jobs and risen because of the Tao to a revered position as a sage. its not new, not fun or funny. We get it, wise beyond his years, should be listened to even while washing a dirty cup. It's all mid-life men's BS.

I do not usually read fiction and spend most of my time reading spiritual and philosophical texts. I found this book to contain both and enjoyed this book very much.
