Summary
A Warhammer Crime Anthology.
Return to the mean streets of Varangantua for another taste of just how grim life can be for the average Imperial citizen in the 41st Millennium.
Listen to it because....
Seemingly disconnected stories from some of your favourite authors weave together into a nightmarish glimpse of desperation and poverty, and the powerful elite who keep it that way.
The story:
Varangantua is in turmoil.
After the district of Korsk is obliterated in a fiery cataclysm, the city’s enforcers must pick up the pieces. As sanctioner teams comb the wreckage for survivors, dogged probators such as Agusto Zidarov and Lycia Calix seek to uncover the truth about what happened. Their stories become intertwined with those of petty criminals and desperate citizens, even drawing the vaunted attention of agents beyond Alecto itself, painting a picture of sprawling conspiracy.
But while the calamity means death and destitution for many, others take advantage of the chaos to gain wealth or position within the city’s byzantine hierarchies. With Varangantua’s place in the wider Imperium at stake, will the truth about the disaster come to light, or will it be buried in the rubble along with thousands of bodies?
This Warhammer Crime anthology contains seven brand-new stories featuring both new and established characters from the city-sprawl of Varangantua.
Contents:
- 'The Bones of the Martyrs' by Jude Reid
- 'Carrion Call' by Noah Van Nguyen
- 'Against Entropy' by Guy Haley
- 'Servant of the Righteous' by Graham McNeill
- 'Skin Deep' by Darius Hinks
- 'Angels in the Gutter' by Alec Worley
- 'Outside Powers' by Chris Wraight
Narrated by Helen Keeley, Phillip Sacramento, Richard Reed, Tom Alexander, Greg Jones, Harry Myers, and Charles Armstrong. Running time is 10 hours and 55 minutes (approx).

nice background flavour for 40k
good use of short stories to cover the world of 40k with it's different aspects and getting the grim darkness of the corruption of the place to link it together

Gritty as all heck
This is truly excellent. Grim, dark as you'd expect; but it's even funny in places though. Excellent story, little knowledge of the wider 40k universe required to enjoy it to the fullest. The stories all stand alone but build the core narrative. Bravo!

Warhammer Crime doesn't miss
Loved it. A great collection of stories, all linked by a common thread. This works well to keep the reader engaged throughout. As it happens, all of the stories are decent, so that wasn't a major issue. A very good standard of voice acting through each of the stories.

Another excellent Warhammer crime book
The Warhammer crime stories are consistently good, expanding the grimdark future away from power armoured death dealers fighting chaos and xenos, to a more human, down to earth (sorry holy terra!) setting. This anthology uses many characters from previous books to great effect and is one of the best books yet, even if you are not a 40k fan this can act as a great gateway to the wider universe. Highly recommended.

Innovative
Pleasant listen. A good number of original story, loosely but masterfully linked, the overall plot is sophisticated for 40k standards. Good job.

The narration
This is a book where the narrators are better than the stories, even the Chris Wraight story was mediocre

For fans of the crime series
Although the stories stand well enough on their own, they do build up the core narrative of the conspiracy in whole. Definitely one for fans of the Warhammer crime series with a few stories involving characters from some of the full novels like rho 1 Lux and probator Zidarov. I feel it’s not at engrossing as any of the full novels in the series but would tide a fan over until the next full book set in Varangantua. I would say it’s worth an audible credit or get it on sale.

Another Varangantua Banger!
Warhammer Crime can’t miss - a great set of stories with some familiar characters too.
Baggit and Clod, and Rho-1 Lux are particular favourites.

Must read for warhammer crime fans.
I love the stories of Varangantua along with the interesting characters and intrigue. If you’re a fan of those stories then don’t sleep on this one. If you haven’t read the other warhammer crime stories start with those before this one. There are a lot of references and characters you’ll miss otherwise.

Fantastic collection of great stories!
I loved every novella in here. Really gave a good idea of daily life on an imperial planet. Also loved the cameos by characters we already knew.

a really great culmination of stories
hope they continue to expand these stories separately and slowly build up the scale to eventually have all these characters meet up.
What would be so awesome is if these crime stories are actually laying the ground work for a little revolution and Alecto becoming independent to the imperium.

Starts strong, dips, finishes well
A collection of related stories set in Vanrangantua. Warhammer crime has been great overall and this really had some awesome additions to the setting. A few are less "crimey" and more warhammery, but thats okay. One or 2 stories in the middle felt a little slow but overall I enjoyed the collection, and the varied performances are all outstanding.
