About this listen

Concealed by a shroud of dirty brown velvet was what looked like a heap of rags. In a desolate subterranean car park of a Shopping Centre, Dorothy Sanders pulled back the velvet curtain revealing the grim discovery of a woman’s body. Inspector Michael Burden, for a while conducting the investigation without the help of Wexford’s intuitive genius, blunders down a number of blind alleys before uncovering the truth. Who would garrote a middle-aged housewife and leave her body in the parking garage of a suburban shopping mall? Chief Inspector Wexford is no sooner on the case than a car bomb's explosion lands him in the hospital. It's now up to Mike Burden to step in and solve the case. He's got a suspect . . . but will he be able to make him talk?

Unusually this didn't seem to hang together and I didn't find it as enjoyable as the other Wexford novels.

Not her best

Having exhausted all (the most excellent) Nigel Anthony’s readings of RR stories I thought I’d give Robin Bailey a go. Having read the reviews I expected the worst. So the narration took some getting used to just because the style is different. Mr Bailey ‘reads’ the book rather than attempting different accents (although Clifford and the psychiatrist have their own voices). I thoroughly enjoyed his telling and didn’t find it a boring voice at all as some others have. The story dragged on though. Not bad just too long. Really felt for Clifford and Burden is SO annoying in this one! Never a likeable character he outdid himself this time.

Good narration. Story too dragged out.

Unfortunately the narrator could be narrating the best story in the world and wouldn’t have mattered.
Stopped listening or carrying what happened in the story and had to stop:-(
Story might have been good but couldn’t engage with it and had to stop before I lost the will to live…

Couldn’t hear any more

For me this listen was spoilt by the narrator, The narrator of previous Wexford books, sounded like Wexford and this accent just didn’t fit.

Not my favourite Wexford listen.
