Story
In 2004, Doctor Damien Howard's 131st birthday celebration took an unexpected turn. His personal SETI project detected an extraterrestrial signal directed at Earth. Unfortunately, Dr. Howard's long-hoped-for communication contained a message of dire warning rather than greeting. In 1945, humanity had become a species of galactic interest and was given 100 years to address the issue.

Story
An epic story of survival at all odds and one of the most anticipated books of the year. In a ruined and hostile landscape, in a future few have been unlucky enough to survive, a community exists in a giant underground silo. Inside, men and women live an enclosed life full of rules and regulations, of secrets and lies. To live, you must follow the rules. But some don't. These are the dangerous ones; these are the people who dare to hope and dream, and who infect others with their optimism.

Ever since the copper mine closed, the West Texas desert hellholes of Inferno and Bordertown have been slowly dying. Snake River isn't the only thing that divides them. Racism, gang wars, and anti-Mexican sentiment have turned the sun-scorched flatlands into a powder keg. If anything can unite them for now, at least in awe and wonder, it's the UFO that comes soaring out of the clouds like a flaming locomotive.

Story
Everything is familiar. But everything has changed. Coming back to the little community is like walking into a nightmare for Jim Gardener, poet, drunk, potential suicide. It all looks the same: the house; the furniture; Jim's friend, Bobbi; her beagle (though ageing); even the woods out at the back. But it was in the woods that Bobbi stumbled over the odd, part-buried object and felt a peculiar tingle as she brushed the soft earth away. Everything is familiar. But everything is about to change.

There is a problem
It is so difficult for me to give this story a 5 star rating when it so obviously deserves a higher score. The story is so well crafted in every way. In such a short duration of time, our lead is developed and given to us the way a Polaroid reveals itself in graduated measures. When we believe there is nothing to further develop, we have an apex with a twist and a clever ending. This writing deserves, at bare minimum, 6 stars. With that said, this recording causes one problem for focussing on writing accolades about the story and that lies in the narration.
Because OMG what an unreal and stellar performance by Betty Buckley! Her performance was mind bogglingly perfect. She did not read or simply narrate, she WAS Celeste Fox. Every inflection, pause, utterance and emotion was delivered with incredible feel and this occured from the very second her voice was heard. The story is easily a 5 star but Betty Buckley took this to an entirely different level.
To write something of this quality and have it unfold so meticulously in such a short duration (consider the difficulty of crafting strong character development within a limited time construct) is a confirmation of the author's strength and mastery.
Now I have a problem. I have heard the symphony and must return to AM radio. If only all performances were this good...
