...but although the narrator has a perfectly ok voice for delivering a story, the quality of the narration was not good. Gaps and hesitations, as though reaching the end of a line of text and not looking forward to get the flow right. And the pronunciations were off, even on easy words like gunwales, as well as on Shetlandic names. It let the story down when the charm of it is hearing the Shetland place names and picturing the locations. Could have been better...

Listening to these in order. I like the narrator although the Geordie accent was OTT. I’m not familiar enough with Shetland to notice a problem there. Book 1 was a bit slow and I got fed up with Charlie always being “Pearie Charlie”. OK she’s taught us a word now let it drop and just call him Charlie. It’s a bit baddies and goodies and neither of the couples involved seemed real and the plot was overly complex but many murder stories are. Twists are expected rather than a surprise. An enjoyable series though and I like having a strong female character but hop there won’t be “ will they won’t they” subplot lines all through the series.

This is my second listen in this series and I will listen to more because I love the link with the islands and the story was not bad. I did get fed up with the large number of mis-pronunciations again however, and find it disappointing that the editors didn’t help the narrator with this before publishing it. I quite like the narrator, and now associate her voice and style with the character of Cass, but it is never good to irritate your listeners when putting together an audiobook! PLEASE Quest, pay attention to this essential quality check or risk a low score from your audience.

This story is the second one in this series and have enjoyed them both immensely. The details of Shetland life and the yachts and boats were all very informative. The story was well written and narrated. The murder mystery was enthralling I will be getting the next book right away.
