About this listen

Six brand-new, award-winning audio adventures from The Treacle People!

A laugh-out-loud fantasy comedy adventure for adults and kids alike, with cinematic sound design, original music and a full cast.

Welcome to Sabden, home of the mines that once produced fully half of Britain’s treacle – the sticky stuff that goes into golden syrup, ginger beer and parkin cake. But the wells have run dry, the Bubble and Boggart pub is closing, and the villagers find themselves in a very sticky situation…

Hope, however, is at hand! A mysterious message in a bottle leads Tapper, Lil and the rest of our friends on an epic quest for riches beyond their wildest dreams. With the help of their trusty Treacle Tracker, they’ll descend to the very depths of the earth, cross the Molasso Sea, tame the Great White Mallard, Moby Duck, and enter the Mines of King Habbakuk.

Will they find the treasure? Will they make it out alive? And will we find the budget for some decent locations now we’re doing this on audio? Find out the answers to all this and much, much less in The Treacle People: Still Sticky.

Perfect for fans of Wallace & Gromit, Terry Pratchett and classic British absurdist comedy, Still Sticky is a deeply silly adventure for all ages.

I had never heard of the Treacle People TV series before seeing this Audio, as it was a while after my childhood TV viewing, but I went and first viewed a couple of the episodes they have uploaded to YouTube to see what it was like and it did remind me of several British TV children’s programs that I did watch way back when.

This is very much a labour of love and a family legacy project, and that is very clear from the production, with the return of original voice actors and the tone of the original series being brought very well to audio. Worth checking out the videos about the legacy also.

The audio contains 6 episodes that are not self contained stories like the TV series but are actually one big story broken down into 6 parts. The move from TV to audio is no problem and you still get all the flavour of the originals, with the great voice cast, along with several jokes about this new medium that it is in.

From what I have seen of the original it was made as a children’s series, but with the audio they have expanded the target audience now with the jokes and Meta-commentary making it a great listen to an older audience, and maybe the children who watched it originally but are now more mature in age. Very much a British comedy production taking you back to previous times.

This is an entertaining listen and a successful translation of the original to audio, and very much continues the legacy it was built on. But I do have one final word of warning. As this is 6 episodes that does mean you are getting the theme tune at the beginning and end of each episode. I listened to it over one day so had the theme tune play 12 times during the 1 hour 24 minutes duration. Now 2 days later the theme tune in my head is… still sticky. (I hear the narrator groaning somewhere.)

Received this book free of monetary charge to give it an honest review but it still cost me that most valuable currency, time, and electricity of course. So I listened to the whole audio with my currency of time, and electricity, and have given an honest review of what I thought here.

A Worthy Return

The Treacle People – Still Sticky keeps the same offbeat humour, rural Lancashire charm, and eccentric cast, but adapts its storytelling to the audio format, replacing the visual whimsy of stop-motion with rich soundscapes and playful voice performances. While the TV show relied heavily on quirky animation, physical gags, and the sight of treacle oozing from clay-built sets, the Audible series leans into dialogue, narration, and sound effects to spark the listener’s imagination. The result feels both familiar and fresh—retaining the heart and warmth of the original while giving the audience freedom to picture the treacle-mining world in their own way. If they are already familiar with the characters it is a lovely carry on from the original series bringing them all back to life!
Overall absolutely amazing! And very nostalgic! ❤️

This was so wonderful to listen to, so easy to imagine it all play out and I know if I had been a child I would have run whatever CD or cassette this could have been on then til it broke!

The humor is so charming and both the comedy and storytelling fit adults as much as children, to me. It was a very comforting listen. If that makes any sense.

Perfect casting, easy to distinguish characters.

I have not actually watched or grown up with the Treacle People because I am Swedish, but I really want to experience more of them and their comedy now! Also so that I may come back to relisten and really take in how wonderful it is that original voicecast did this!

Comforting adventure, even for an adult!
