Summary

Carole Seddon has never enjoyed holidays much. Nevertheless, she has allowed herself to be persuaded by her friend Jude to accept a fortnight’s free accommodation at a luxurious Turkish villa owned by Jude’s property developer friend Barney Willingdon.

But from the outset the holiday is marred by a series of menacing incidents. As Carole and Jude launch into what they do best - investigating - it becomes clear that Barney Willingdon has made plenty of enemies, with his ruthless business deals and complicated love life. Matters come to a head when Carole’s sightseeing trip to nearby Pinara is curtailed by the discovery of a body in one of the ancient Lycian tombs. And what really did happen to Barney’s first wife, Zoe?

Dodgy doings

Carole seems determined to drive Jude round the bend at the start of this story it is some time before the abroad part actually gets underway. Simon Brett adds historical details which if you are actually planning to go to Turkey yourself may well be of interest. A property developer offers Jude a free villa and says she can bring a friend, he is on his second marriage and allegedly has been involved in some dodgy dealings according to an ex partner in the business.

Great story

Great story and location. The characters are so well written they come to life. Simon Brett is the master of characterisation. Easy to listen to too.

Better Than His Last Book

Would you consider the audio edition of The Tomb in Turkey to be better than the print version?

The million dollar question this. Normally I would have said yes but for one teeny thing. Repetition of part of chapter three. No honest, I thought I was hearing things to begin with. Still I suppose that is an improvement on Murder in the Museum where an entire chapter was missing.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Tomb in Turkey?

Actually working out who dun it before either of the ladies. That must have been a first for me.

What about Simon Brett’s performance did you like?

I always enjoy his reading. Doesn't go for silly squeaky voices for the female of the species. He does have a good repertoire of both male and female voices.

Any additional comments?

I would like all of his books to be available via Audible.

A nice change of scene

Despite the fact you can deduce who the killer is the moment you meet them (a little too obvious with the clichés), it's great to have Carol and Jude in completely new and foreign surroundings. Another 5 star book.

One of my favourites

I love all the Feathering stories. I particularly enjoy Carol's Carolness in this one at the start of the book. I hope that Mr Brett will take Carol and Jude abroad again as they must sure be due a holiday!

Making me smile in these times

I am going through these very funny and well -plotted mysteries. They are light, and I am getting to know the two very different characters of Jude and Carole. They are also well narrated.by the author. Thank you Simon Brett for keeping me cheerful.
