Summary

When others look at you, what do they see? What would you like them to see? A confident, successful person brimming with ideas and energy? Or a fearful, passive person? Others see you as you see yourself. Your image of yourself is a reflection of your self-esteem, which defines your level of professional success and personal happiness. In The Thriving Self, renowned psychologist Nathaniel Branden reveals the tremendous power of healthy self-esteem and the crucial importance of building up your self-confidence. He explains why:

  • The mind must trust itself
  • Healthy self-esteem is so important in love
  • Low self-esteem is related to the fear of success
  • Perseverance and the ability to bounce back from life's setbacks are both related to your self-image

A healthy self-image gives you the confidence to cope with the challenges of life. It leads you to more exciting and demanding pursuits, both personally and professionally. Listen to The Thriving Self and find out how rewarding life can be once you learn to believe in yourself.

Love Dr. Branden's Work, But Not This Book!

Nathaniel Branden's work has dramatically improved my self-esteem and consequently, my life overall. He is the foremost expert on self-esteem. However, this book is all but useless when compared to his other material. I suggest The Six Pillars Of Self-Esteem and his audio download on his website - Basic Relaxation & Ego Boosting. I suggest passing on this book. It does not represent his expertise well, is oversimplified, and overpriced for the value one can get from it.

I love this book, listened twice

This is a good introduction, but if you really want a self esteem make over, listen to his book called The Psychology of Self Esteem, get a giant empty note pad and do the writing assignments. You will make amazing discoveries, I've listened to countless hours of books on self improvement. The work you do yourself is the key to success

Only 2 Chapters and distracting background music

I did not understand this was a total of ONLY 1 -hour, was only 2 chapters. This is like a 1 hour seminar rather than a book. Disappointed with the length. Distracting background music at times during narration. There were few good points made. Overall I'd say this should have been a pass.
