A riveting thriller about a woman still grieving her brother who was killed at a carnival, but when she goes back to retrace his steps the night he was killed, she learns the full, terrifying truth about what happened that night...

Everyone will hear you scream. No one will listen.

Norah can’t stop thinking about the night her brother died.

She was supposed to stay with him at the Halloween carnival. He’d begged her to stay. But they’d fought, and Norah left him alone in the woods. That was before she realized there was a real killer lurking among the costumes and macabre props.

When the carnival reopens just weeks later amid a media controversy, Norah decides to retrace her brother’s last steps in a desperate attempt to unravel what really happened that night. But the woods hold more than just traumatic memories.

Before long, Norah begins to suspect that the killer’s choice of hunting ground was no coincidence. And that this nightmare is far from over.

I think I first saw this book being reviewed on social media and I was immediately interested and couldn’t wait to read it. It is largely set in an outdoor ‘haunted house’ scare trail. I thought a lot of the descriptions and atmosphere-building at this event, particularly in the Plaza area, were spot on. I could practically taste/smell that area through the descriptions. The plot was decent, but not groundbreaking. The biggest let down for me was the character development. Despite being really invested in liking this book, I just struggled to connect with the characters. Other than a few passages from the victim’s sister’s POV, the characters always felt a little distant to me. I read this book over two days and finished it yesterday and I actually can’t remember some of the character names even now. The conversations between the teenagers also felt quite unbelievable/out of touch (they read more like how an adult thinks teenagers talk, rather than how they actually interact with each other). Overall, I did enjoy this book and would read other books by this author, but with this specific book I couldn’t help but feel as though it didn’t quite live up to my expectations.

Good atmospheric thriller
