About this listen
Lottie Lane is all alone in the world. As a chambermaid at one of London’s busiest inns, condemned to a life of drudgery and at the mercy of a vicious landlady, Lottie is too worn out to even dream of a better life.
Until one night an injured soldier is brought to The Swan. Lottie nurses him back from the dead and suddenly everything changes. She finds herself following the drum of the soldiers, all the way from the docks of Chatham to the darkness and despair of a far flung battlefield.
When tragedy strikes, Lottie is alone once more and thrown back into the jaws of London’s streets. With the threat of destitution nipping at her heels, Lottie is in dire need of a miracle . . .

Lottie Lane because whatever happened and also whatever was thrown at her she just picked up her skirts and got on with itWhat about Annie Aldington’s performance did you like?

Another beautifully written book from Dilly Court, totally enthralling from the very beginning to the end. Excellent narration from Annie Aldington with a faultless and fluent delivery as she moves wonderfully between the characters. Never had to recap because I couldn't quite hear what said, which is tantamount to the quality of the narration. The speed seemed to be at normal conversation level, on some other audio books I have felt the need to speed narration up to 1.25, but certainly not for this one. Totally recommended, for a feel good relaxing listen.Five star story and narration
