Critic reviews

"A gripping title with moments of surreal humour and great tenderness - not to mention dread as the raindrops fall." ( Bookseller)

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I really love the concept of this story. What would you do if you could not touch water again? All water has been infected and is now deadly. You can't wash yourself or your clothes, you can't drink the water, and you can't go outside most of the time in case you get wet. Reading this book made me realise how much I take clean water for granted.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I really didn't want to stop listening to this story. Once I started listening I was desperate to know what happened to Ruby and her friends.

Any additional comments?

Even though this book is written for teenagers, I really enjoyed it (and I am in my 30's). I would recommend it to everyone.

You will think twice about going out in the rain!

I loved the books and audibles, would love a 3rd book to see how they are and what happened next as I feel another story could finish it off my curiosity.

Make a 3rd book

It was nice to see The character grow more in this second book, even though she’s got a head and attitude of a typical teenager who can make the most stupid decisions. But we have all been there!
It was sad in places I even shed a tear. There was a good conclusion which I loved.
Although there’s only two swear words the replacements butterfly and later bug get tiresome we can use sentences without swearing come on!!
However I enjoyed the book it was very humorous 👍👍

Great post apocalyptic story

This follows on from Rubys first story about the apocalypse and if you liked the first one, you’ll like this too!
It is a little darker than book 1 - Ruby is shaking obvious signs of shock and depression from the disaster around her - but she is still the same makeup and phone obsessed teenager we grew to love in the first book.
The more I listened to the narrator, the more I liked her and feel she was the perfect choice for an antsy, at times angry, yet genuinely nice apocalypse struggling teenager!

Decent sequel to The Rain

Took me a while to get into it, but once I reminded myself that the main character is a young teenager (quite a way to remember what that was like 😁) it became a little easier. The actual plot was quite believable, with injections of slightly far fetched actions/scenes this made for some humerous moments, some almost tear dropping ones, and some that had 'me' (I'm a complete animal fan, that's a clue) shouting, really shouting NO towards my speaker. After 4, yes 4 restarts as I lost my way or couldn't understand the character, I'm thankful I did, I really enjoyed this book, I still would definitely put it in the teenager/young adult section, but give it a go, glad I did.

Believable, in parts
