Story
As a massive storm batters the Scottish coast, Gordon Smith’s home is falling into the North Sea. But the crumbling headland has revealed what he’s got buried in his garden: human remains. With the storm still raging, it’s too dangerous to retrieve the bodies, and waves are devouring the evidence. Which means no one knows how many people Smith’s already killed and how many more he’ll kill if he can’t be stopped. The media are baying for blood, the top brass are after a scapegoat and ex-Detective Inspector Ash Henderson is done playing nice.

Story
The charred remains of an elderly woman are discovered in a burned-out gamekeeper's cottage, hidden away in woodland to the west of Edinburgh. Clearly no accidental fire, Detective Inspector Tony McLean suspects that neither is this simply a grim arson attack. There is far more to the victim than her humble surroundings might suggest, and something ritualistic to her horrific murder. Nor will it be the only case of death by fire that Tony and his team will be faced with. This is only the beginning, and with such evil clouding the air, Tony begins to wonder what else will burn....

Great as always but slight unbelievable and implausible story with such experienced characters
I love listening to these and have followed all the books. This is just a bit unbelievable and implausible that the characters would end up in this situation, and also the storylines seem to often revolve around central characters. I stopped listening to Patricia Cornell ( sorry if spelt wrong) as I thought why don’t you all retire and the level of serious crime would immediately drop!! Make it about others and brilliant plausible detective work!!

Fantastic story
I am new to DCI Lorimer and can’t believe I haven’t listened to these stories yet! Loved the plot and the characters and their relationships. There is much of life in this book that uses the detective genre as a vehicle for exploring complex issues that resonant. I shall be listening to a lot more of Alex Gray

A brilliant series.
I have now listened to the whole series of DCI Lorimer books, and what an enjoyable series it has been.
My only regret is I haven't got any more now to listen to, and will have to wait for the next to be written and presented on Audible.
Narration by Joe Dunlop is as ever perfect.

dragged on too long
I really enjoyed the previous books by Luca Veste and this began well. unfortunately it became too strung out and 30mins before the end of the book I gave up not wanting even to persevere and find out what happened. That says a lot! I got bored with it. Not like me at all as I really try to finish a book getting so far through it.
