About this listen

'You can never go wrong with Christina Lauren!' Paige Toon

Pure, irresistible magic from start to finish' Emily Henry

The New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners returns with a hilariously witty and feel-good romcom about your perfect match being the last person you'd expect . . .

Jess is a numbers genius, but when it comes to love she's had to accept there is no magic formula. Juggling a career with raising her daughter, it's not surprising that her love life is. . . non-existent. When yet another date ends in disaster, she's prepared to give up on love for good.

But then she hears about a buzzy new matchmaking company that claims to find you the One using a DNA equation. Suddenly, love doesn't seem quite so far out of reach . . .

Until her test shows an unheard-of 98% compatibility with the company's founder, Dr River Pena. Jess already knows Dr Pena, and this man is 100% not her soulmate. Yet as the pair are dragged from one event to the next as the ultimate 'Diamond' pairing, Jess begins to realise that there might be more to the scientist - and to the science behind a soulmate - than she thought.

An enjoyable book, a bit cheesy for me (male lead = tall/dark/ rich /handsome; female lead = single mum). A good range of characters and easy to read.

However, the author of the book considered it important to point out when someone was 'black' or 'Asian'. I'm not sure why all of the characters were not simply treated equally.

Loved the whole plot, it didn’t overcomplicate itself but I still wanted to listen more every time. Character design was amazing and I really started to care about all of them. Would pretty much recommend this book to anyone unless you don’t like romance

Cute plot. Underdeveloped characters but that might just be byproduct from the length of the book. The storyline felt rushed, with unlikely reactions and forming of relationships. I like the storyline overall but this needed to be a shorter or longer book. Either cut back on all backstory and just focus on the love story or tell me more. Not my fave but probably an ok and easy read on the sun bed this summer. Narration largely good. At times the narrator feel a bit dissociated and 🤷🏻‍♀️. But over all ok.

This book is the literary equivalent of a hot bath and a slab of fancy chocolate and should be made into pill form to cheer people up on gloomy days. The plot is entirely predictable but in a very satisfying way and the characters are genuinely loveable and well-written, so you can get properly invested. I do a lot of “highbrow” reading and it’s all well and good but this is FUN. A hug for the soul.

Good story, I loved that. And a plot twist at the end. The audiobook was perfect!
