Summary
DCI Hanlon faces the toughest decision of her career as a string of political murders lead to a deadly confrontation.
A controversial, right-wing German politician is due to speak at the Oxford Union. Following a series of murders linked to a violent anarchist group, the city is on high alert. DCI Hanlon has been partnered with DI Huss to ensure the speech goes smoothly and that there will be no more killing.
Meanwhile, as Hanlon traces the person behind the murders, she soon realises that the chilling truth has a terrible price. Is Hanlon willing to meet the cost?
The final gripping case for DCI Hanlon. Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Lisa Regan and Mark Dawson.

Hanson to the rescue again
Alex produces the goods again. if you like the other books you will love this one just as much. We all long for a strong female heroine (that's probably too stereotypical for you young woke people) Hanlon fits the bill. A good read well read that keeps you engaged until the somewhat bitter end. Next please

Returning because of the use of the c... swear word
I will be returning all audible books using the c... swear word. The modern use of this word is not only inflammatory and derogatory towards women but is the most violent and extreme swear word in the English language. Such terminology would be morally and legally banned in the context of race, religion, homosexuality, etc but is deemed acceptable towards women. I hope other listeners will take similar action.

Sorely disappointed, Hanlon has been let down!
I have loved every single DCI Hanlon audio books, first listening to the ones based on Scotland, then going to the beginning and listening to the others on order of release.
This is the most disappointing book in the collection in my opinion. It wasn’t easy to get into, the plot and characters were difficult to follow. I only stuck with it because I felt sure things would get better but sadly they didn’t.
The narrator has changed too, she made Hanlon sound like a character from Eastenders and DI Huss had an on off Oxfordshire accent with little consistency.
On the whole, I’d recommend giving this one a wide berth as you don’t need it for continuity for when Hanlon moves to Scotland.

A good read
It was a while since I had read others in the series so it took me a while to reconnect with the main characters. I had to listen to the first few chapters a couple of times to memorize all the names but once I got into the book I enjoyed it.

Huge Let Down
I so wanted to love this book, as I have the first three DCI Hanlon books, but I really did not. The author went to great lengths to cultivate a persona for Hanlon. Aloof, cultured and very intelligent. The foul mouthed cockney version of her portrayed in this book is just too big a departure from the character we loved.
The plot also lacks the raw, visceral narrative of previous outings. I had to practically force myself to keep at it until the end.
If I were you, I’d stop at book 3 and if you haven’t read the Hanlon PI titles, go to them instead.

Great read
Really enjoyed this book. The narration was fine for me although not as good as other books in the PI series. I did have to keep going back over the previous few pages to hear some of the text again but this is more down to me wanting to ensure I heard exactly what I thought I had. I do hope the author continues with this character either in further prequels or in a continuation from book three as PI. Whilst I can understand some of the negative comments from other readers, I would not let this put any followers of this character and for me, it was exciting and action packed.
