**A spellbinding historical novel**

The Sunday Times Bestseller ‘O’Brien is now approaching Philippa Gregory status’ – Reader’s Digest

‘A dangerous word, perhaps, for a woman. Power.’

From her first clandestine marriage, Joan of Kent’s reputation is one of beauty, rumour and scandal.

Her royal blood makes her a desirable bride. Her ambition and passion make her a threat.

Joan knows what she must do to protect her reputation…the games to play, the men to marry. She will do anything to get what she wants: The Crown of England.

A tale of ambition, treachery and desire, The Shadow Queen tells of a woman’s ascent through the court to command royal power alongside her young son, King Richard II.

Princess Joan sounds the most amazing person and it was lovely reading about all her exploits.

Was not the best of all my audiobooks but certainly entertaining. Not sure I would look for more from this author.

This is an interesting and well written book, but, it is about a woman called Joanna occasionally called Jeanette in the narration. At no time unless I really missed something is anyone called Eleanor Mortimer mentioned. A good book nether the less.

Who is Eleanor Mortimer!

Struggled to persevere. Seemed to be mainly a narrative, circling the same story line, with little colour or detail. I did not have a picture of these events or the characters. I found the narrator flat and irritating. I'm usually entranced by similar books. I'm sure this is not a reflection of other books by this author.

The shadow Queen.

The author uses very repetitive language throughout her books this one really felt like it hadn't been proof-read. There are other words than "sanguine" - it's used about 20 times in the book 😂 Also I feel like the information in this book clashes with the info in the book about Alice? same timeline and characters who seem different in the books.... takes me out of that "world".

nothing special
