Six months ago, Clementine West had the worst day of her life. So, she came up with a plan to keep her heart safe: stay busy, work hard, take no risks. And it’s been working.
That is until one day she finds a strange man standing in her kitchen. A man with kind eyes, a crooked smile, and a recipe for the perfect lemon meringue pie. The kind of man that, before everything, she could have fallen for …
He’s perfect but for one thing: he lives in the past. Seven years ago, to be exact.
This should be impossible, but Clementine used to love impossible things. And maybe, just maybe, she will again. After all, love is never a matter of time – but a matter of timing.

Books had become a distraction to the grief of loved ones recently lost. I stayed away from books that worked with grief because if I couldn’t explain the pain I felt to even myself how should I expect a person I never met to do it. But she did. How even months later when you start to feel okay then suddenly a chair or random item can feel like a blow to the chest. Or on even a good day, a memory suddenly almost makes you feel guilty for having fun in a world where said loved one doesn’t exist.
But she found a way to embody that- not even just in this book but also in Dead Romantics. It feels a bit like being seen in a way mourners may not know they needed. I’m thankful to have found someone whose books I enjoy and will continue to follow.

I adored The Seven Year Slip. Definitely one I’d recommend to anyone. The romance was beautiful, and the unexpected touch of magic and mystery woven into real world struggles like grief, loss, and life crises made it an unpredictable and captivating read. It felt so relatable to me, making the emotional journey with Clementine even more powerful. I’d love to read more books like this and can’t wait to explore more from Ashley Poston!
