Before Ellen, things were easier and less complicated. They were either good or bad, right or wrong, black or white, and I understood the difference. Since Ellen, everything has been coloured in shades of grey. From the author of The Secrets Between Us, part of the 2012 Richard and Judy Summer Reads, comes this dark, thrilling novel that is perfect for your book group. It's set 20 years ago against a backdrop of dreamy Cornish summers, a place where childhood friendship becomes young love, where love becomes obsession, and where obsession ultimately ends in betrayal and a tragic death.

Enjoyable listen
I enjoyed this book. It compulsive listening and I completed it in one day. The narrator was good. Very easy to listen to and enthusiastic in her performance. The story took a while to unfold but when it got going it was excellent. A complete page turner. I liked the way the author tied up all the loose ends in the books conclusion. This is the first book I have bought by this author, but will definitely listen to more. A good use of a credit.

Great story - unexpected ending
I really enjoyed this one and was caught up in the story right from the beginning but I wasn't expecting what came out at the end. Call my naive! Amy is a young girl who has been working as a nanny/housekeeper for a family in France when tragedy happens and the family have to return to Somerset to a small, cold cottage. Strange things happen in the cottage and Amy is determined to get to the bottom of it while protecting her charges. She falls in love and I really wanted it to turn out well for all.

1960s story with a twist
This story although set in the 1960s has a modern theme and a twist.
The plotline develops well throughout the story. I liked the spookiness of the story - present but not overwhelming. At times I found it difficult to believe it was set in the 60s as some of the themes were quite modern. But overall a good listen.

A bit preachy
Not a bad story line but wordy, when perhaps less is more.
Confusing morals, background education insufficient for suppositions if story teller.
