Summary

It is the week before Christmas. The effects of the credit crunch have prompted Dr Kay Scarpetta to offer her services pro bono to New York City’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. But in no time at all, her increased visibility precipitates a string of dramatic and unsettling events. She is asked live on the air about the sensational case of Hannah Starr, who has vanished and is presumed dead. Moments later during the same broadcast, she receives a startling call-in from a former psychiatric patient of Benton Wesley’s. And when she returns after the show to the apartment where she and Benton live, she finds a suspicious package waiting for her at the front desk....

Not the best

Having read most of the Scarpetta books I really wasn't that impressed with this one. The story was boring and lacked any real thriller aspect in my opinion, there was way too much random reference to subject matter that was simply - page filling. The narrator's attempt at various character's accents and male / female tones was awful and really spoilt it for me, going forward, I'll definitely reconsider another audio book dependent on who's narrating it.

Good!

A definitive and comprehensive understanding of what Kay Scarpetta does, when dealing with crime and dead bodies. Worth a listen!

Fantastic Book

A gripping book book from beginning to end. Patricia Cornwell at her best, a twist at the end.

Another winner from Patricia Cornwell.

I’m hooked on the Scarpetta series, Port Mortuary is next on my list. I must mention narrator Lorelei King . . . Some others may disagree but I love her narration.

Definitely one of her best

As I'm reading all her books in order, some answers from the last book get answered and I do love how Cornwall. Moves her story with realism. Now onto next...all I will say. There is a shift in her ending style in this book and it works.

A cracking read with a great performance

I’ve loved reading the Scarpetta stories and this is one of the best. Lorelei King is excellent as narrator.

Great story but shame about the narrator

I love Patricia Cornwall's Scarpetta series but I found the narrator to be rather annoying with a very strong, slightly fake accent that marred my enjoyment of this book. The character tones adopted were over the top and even slightly difficult to understand. The storyline was twisted, exciting and was compelling listening in spite of that.
