RONE AWARD FINALIST!

Jameson Quinn is sick of trying to find herself in the big city. After a gallery opening ends in a trip to the ER and an argument with her self-involved boyfriend, she decides to take off for the peace and quiet of a small town—Ruth Valley. The small town has everything Brooklyn lacked: simple people, peaceful surroundings, and a feeling of safety. Jameson even finds the perfect house to rent from the town’s most eligible bachelor, Sheriff Jack. Life is finally headed in a promising direction.

But something isn't right. A young man is mysteriously injured, then disappears—and Jameson finds he isn't the only person to suddenly vanish. The suspicious behavior of an abrasive nun and a creepy priest set her off on an investigation of what's really happening. Will she figure out the secrets of Ruth Valley before she's the next to go missing?

Loved the narration from Mina Fairlow

We meet Jameson as she leaves the city, moving to a small town. Leaving her life and relationship in New York for a quiet life. Jumping into the small town life feet first. Everyone is very friendly but the local church. She starts looking into them. Now the suspense kicks in. With a good looking Sheriff called Jack romance is not that far away. Humour and twist that you will love.

Our heroine with the first name like the Irish whiskey needs to get out of the crime-laden, impersonal big city. Some research reveals a small town has the lowest crime figures anywhere, so she selects it for her new location. After experiencing a much friendlier attitude and a little misunderstanding due to her name, she gets the town sheriff as her landlord. Visits from the local neighbours and the nuns from the nearby convent encourage her to go to church where she encounters the priest who competes for her attention with the fanciable (and available) sheriff. She is accepted into the community using her photography skills to intrigue some of the locals, but also learns there are people going missing and no-one in authority thinks there is anything wrong. Jameson (James to her friends) then is abducted and harmed, but escapes. She becomes suspiscious of religious people, but lacks any proof. She is threatened, but made to stay in the community and act as if nothing has changed. She then has to dance around the attention of the two men and decide who can be trusted. There is a satisfying climax after she makes a sickening discovery. Not everyone is as they seem. I would have given higher marks if vital information had not been hidden until almost the end.

The narrator handled male and female voices, but I had some difficulty, at times, of knowing which of the main male characters was speaking.
