About this listen

Explore the Captivating History of the Roaring Twenties

Few decades capture the imagination like the 1920s. Like so many good stories, it got its start from a time of great turmoil and ended in a dramatic fashion. What happened between 1920 and 1929 has passed beyond history and has become legend.

The lessons of the 1920s are still relevant today. Many of the debates and issues of the era are still part of the national conversation. Economic policies, consumer behaviors and mass culture of the 1920s are reflected in our culture almost 100 years later.

By understanding the past, we can better prepare for the future, and this new Captivating History audiobook is all about giving you that knowledge.

This audiobook includes topics such as:

  • World War One and the 1920s
  • Fear of the Other
  • Old Causes Finishing Business
  • The Cost of Prohibition
  • A New World
  • African Americans
  • Politics and Policies
  • How Did It All End?
  • And much, much more!

Brief account of the 1920's. Enjoyable due good continuity and pleasant reading voice. Last few chapters suffers from political overload but generally a good listen.

Short historical account with good continuity

That is not to take anything away from the research and presentation that the author brings to this book. The decade is sporadically covered, but it’s quite difficult to give an in-depth review of 10 years in a bit over 2 hours and 4 minutes. Within the constraints faced by the author, the book has turned out very well indeed.

Indeed a roared 20's.

This is a great and informative introduction to this time period. I love the hourly history books. They are packed with information without all the fluff. If you want an introduction to this time period . . . this is the place to begin.

The book is only 2 hours and 4 minutes long and the title Anything Goes pretty much describes the era of Wonderful Nonsense that took place. But it includes a great deal of information regarding the individuals and incidents that made up this decade in America's history.

A fun history, an interesting read.

This is a book that gives the casual reader a snapshot of the decade of the 1920s throughout the different chapters which dal with specific people or topics. I was amazed, and shocked, at the self-indulgent hedonism that prevailed during that time, although I think I should not have been, for it is been very well covered by many books.

How and why the 20s roared...
