Story
After almost a century of peaceful exploration and colonization of space, the United Earth Space Force stumbles across a shockingly xenophobic alien race that has more and better armed ships and refuses all attempts at contact. As the outgunned Space Force is driven back in battle after battle in what appears to be a war of extermination, one officer experiences precognitive visions that help him blunt the enemy onslaught, but he can't control or predict when they occur.

Story
In the twentieth century Earth sent probes, transmissions and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy.

Story
The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the Native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon came ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There went the good old days, when humans got killed only by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Gave me a headache!
Would you try another book written by Dietmar Wehr or narrated by Luke Daniels?
Yes to both. Author and narrator. Luke Daniels is one of my favourite narrators but even he struggles in this book, particularly with the AIs portrayals. I've read the Synchronicity War books by Wehr and would recommend them.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
If the mechanics of time travel is your thing, this might be for you but as I said - HEADACHE! The author went into too much detail and the result was confusing and replaced the 'action' of the other books.
Do you think The Retro War needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I won't be reading any follow-up.

It was like the story was meant to be a few books but then cut in to one, it doesn't allow you to develop any emotion for new characters. So while not a bad book it's not a great book either.

Good thing gone too far
Any additional comments?
So first off....Luke Daniels, He is one of the best readers out there. He is one guy who brings different personalities into his voice and inflection....I now look for books read by him.
This last of the series is a good idea that just went on a little too long. With all the time travel and rewriting of what has happened.....well it became a little tedious after a while. The story is well told, all of the AI personalities are great (and brought to life by Mr. D).
Over all it is a good series and the first couple of books are the best....but you know how it is when you get into a decent series.....you HAVE to finish the last book.
Will certainly look for more books by this author.

I like a series tied up well, this book untied it
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
This after series additional book did not follow the well rounded ending of the four book Synchronicity Wars series. I found myself deciding not to include it in my own thinking as part of the series. I really enjoyed the extensive character building over so many different situations in the Synchronicity Wars and I felt that this book really undid much of that.
Any additional comments?
I strongly suggest buying the four books in the Synchronicity Wars series. This ranks among my favorite books along with The Lost Fleet series. This stand alone book really didn't add to the series.
