About this listen

An accessible, heart-melting romance that also tackles serious issues for teen girls today, from the author of Playing the Player.

Romance book blogger Vivian Galdi is a girl on a mission: the Replacement Crush Mission. After Jake the Snake pretends their secret summer kissing sessions never happened, Vivian creates a list of safe crush targets, determined to avoid anyone who pings her zing meter. But nerd-hot Dallas, the new guy in town, sends the mission and Vivian’s zing meter into chaos. While designing software for the bookstore where Vivian works, Dallas wages a counter mission, analyzing his target and taking advantage of the tactical errors in her strategy.

Does Dallas just like a good game of Replacement Crush Battlefield, or is he on his own mission to prove to Vivian that true love can’t be strategized? And how much collateral damage can they both sustain during the heat of battle?

This audiobook was easy and fun. It reminded me of a simpler time, full of high school drama and young love. I think it's most suitable for younger audiences. Last but not least, the narrator was one of the best I have listened to.

Easy, fun, for younger audience

Cute story. Great narrator- I like that way she says yah and nah. The chemistry between the main characters is great but it annoyed me when Viv was rude for no reason a few times. Now about to read the spinoff with Toff and Amy.. And search tiktok for hot cello players lol

Cute

the performance is really good. the story comes close to home, but it ends up being a bit more dramatic than needed (in my humble opinion). I enjoyed it, overall

a ok start to 2025

After a heavy true crime novel I craved some easy cheesy slice of life and this book seemed fine, until the first kiss between the two mc. Until then, every character was quite reasonable for a teenager, they had just enough personality for a romance, no one was just a flat sheet of printer paper but I didn't have to listen nobody's sob back stories eigther for hours. There was tension, however some missed opportutity as well, but overall it has 'zing'.
The second half unfortunatelly went overboard on too many levels. First our fmc - who was generally smart and well trained on romance books - went irrationally stupid just to generate some drama, which wasn't even annoying this point just purely boring. Then both the story AND half of the characters just exploded in my face and went so far from reality I almost quit reading. It kinda has a classic 'love actually' vibe but it is faint.
OVERALL: The first half is a nice easy romance until the first kiss. The second half was too much for me, but you will love it, if you enjoy unreasonable plot twists, an mmc who is perfect in literally EVERYTHING, and unrealistic grand gestures involving a random rock star. It just didn't keep the 'my kind of clishés' and pushed the ones I really don't find cute or sexy at all.

started cute as an easy read, went downfall in the second half
