Summary

Barliona is back! Old world, new heroes!

What would happen if a professional rock musician joined a virtual MMO in search of inspiration among its game world? What would happen if she decided to play as a biota bard, a brand-new race of humanoid flora as well as a new class?

Whatever would happen, it would surely be fun....

A good barliona story with a bad performance.

Story is very good if you like the barliona universe, a little more real and down to earth than our lucky Shaman's story.

The performance was so bad that it prevented me from enjoying the story from time to time. Hearing all the names pronounced wrong and every character sounding like a cranky old lady.

Still def worth a credit if you like the writer and his imagination.

Slow start to series

It feels like a very slow start with a rushed ending to me. Going to need to relisten to The Way of the Shaman to remember what was going on. I understand why I kept seeing unfavorable reviews for this book. If you haven’t read and liked Way of the Shaman don’t bother with this one. I think this is just an intro to this new spinoff from that series.

Name changes?

She keeps saying Jaranika not Garanika. When she said melon for Mayen I was very upset and when she miss pronounce their names it through all amersion out the window. Other than that the book is really good.

So disappointed...

I love the Way of the Shaman series. I think I've listened to it at least 4 times.

Which is why I was so disappointed with this book. There is no charterer development, it ends abruptly, and without any kind of Act III.

I think I am being vague enough, however SPOILER ALERT: 'Something that involved none of us happened somewhere else, so let's talk about writing a song! - THE END' (Really, that's IT!)

Such a wonderful premise, but very poorly executed.

The narrator is OK. The voice is too high pitch at 3.5, however it's tolerable at 3x.

Good Story, but bad name pronunciation

If you are going to have a spinoff series with a different narrator you should have the sound editor check to make sure that the main characters names from the main series arent butchered. *Face Plant*

Why was it so confusing and boring?

The story constantly jumps fro game to reality. A bleak and boring realty! With dialogues out of the blue such as: “do you like fish?” “I don’t know, I will have to try” - no lead up to this nor did it mean anything!
The game-side is innovative... but boring. The full book plays in a tree!!! When something finally happens... it’s jumped over!
The end promises some improvements in the next book.
Wish I had not read it. Far behind the way of the shaman.

The story actually start in the end

It’s too long winded. The MC is in passive mode for the hole story. As far as I am concerned, this story is a total miss. Not anything close to the quality of way of the shaman.

Great story but audio did not do it justice

So I have no issue with the narrator, she did well at the voice acting but for a story about music where the main character is a musician and then becomes a bard they could at least have some music. I felt it was very lacking.

If you put album 1 I expect at least background music if not a song.

Ehh

My only real complaint is that the narrator changed pronunciation of several things. But over all a good listen

Disappointing

I LOVED The Way of the Shaman. It is my favorite LitRpg series. I have listened to the while series many time, including start to finish then straight in to this new book. This book IS NOT written like that series. I have the audiobooks. The original reader has a large voice range. The new reader does not. She is kinda squeaky. The story itself was very disappointing. Forgive my spelling but they had a level one nobody put Anistariea in her place and made her so whiny it was not the same character. From cover to cover I was disappointed. It could not hold my attention. There were so many gamer terms that seemed like they just wrote a story to make a gamer dictionary out of it. They seemed forced in places. They were still explaining terms 3/4 of the way into the story. Previous series 20 out of 10. This series 0.2 out of 10. Mr Mahanenko is a GREAT writer but this is not his best. For the audiobooks please get a different reader. Kate Reading is very good.
