Summary
Michael Palin's best-selling diaries before, during and after Monty Python.
Michael Palin's diaries begin when he was newly married and struggling to make a name for himself in the world of television comedy. But Monty Python was just around the corner....
Enjoying an unlikely cult status early on, the Pythons then proceeded to tour the USA and Canada. As their popularity grew, so Palin relates how the group went their separate ways, later to re-form for stage shows and the celebrated films The Holy Grail and Life of Brian. Living through the three-day week and the miners strike and all the trials of a peripatetic life are also essential ingredients of these perceptive and funny diaries.

Palin - never knowingly underfed!
I have consumed vast amounts of Python over the years from autobiographies and documentaries to books and beyond and thought there was nothing more to possibly know. How wrong could I have been. Utterly absorbing and a must for any Python completist.

Riveting
I started with Travelling to Work, amazing then listened to Full Circle and was waiting for the extended Python Years and have just finished. So interesting on so many levels, the relationship between the "Pythons" how that changes, the making of the films which makes me remember all the memorable scenes and how often I am reminded how apt they are in life. As I get older I often find myself in the Holy Grail scene with the King and prince and trying to get the guards to do as they are told......
Just downloaded the next 29 hours of the eighties and cannot wait to get started.
If you like to listen this is a must.

Fantastic
Immensely entertaining and well read by Mr P - bit like a warm hug! Having lived through the 60’s and 70’s brings back some if not distant memories of those times - highly recommended

Glad I discovered this!
Very interesting read. I was looking for something thorough and glad I came across this. It lasted the whole month and I never found it boring. I've always enjoyed watching/listening to Michael. Going to start the next one now :)

An absolute joy
Enjoyed this so much - a real behind the scenes look of Python, Palin's other great works and also a reminder of the '70's.
Sad it's finished... glad there's others!

Painting a picture every day.
The diary looked a bit outfacing, all those hours, I wondered if I’d just dib in and out every now and again. Not a but if it. Entertaining all the way through. Whether it’s the description of a run or travel arrangements gone awry or the personalities that made up the Pythons and their writing and filming efforts….I have been held every day. There are also mentions of things I remember happening. The three day week. Living through the IRA attacks in London and elsewhere. It’s so interesting I listened whenever I have a chance. Now I’m about to purchase book two. Looking forward to even more entertainment as Mr Palin spreads his wings even further. Eventually around the world in 80 days, can’t wait.

Wonderful insight to the creation of Monty Python
Fascinating behind the scenes view of Michael’s involvement in Python and the many other projects which he was directly involved in as well as a gentle touch of the social history of the time.
