About this listen
I’ve been alone long enough.
As a chart-topping country singer, I’m living the dream. While my family is all back in Austin, embracing their happily-ever-afters, I’m on the road on a sold-out tour.
I should feel ecstatic, yet all I am is lonely.
Maybe that’s why I find myself drawn to a fan who pops up at one of my shows. Something about the way he watches me on stage has me thinking…he knows my secret. And after the first kiss, I can’t seem to let him go. But Jensen Miles has some secrets of his own:
He isn’t just a regular fan. He’s a preacher.
And not just any preacher—the new preacher at my dad’s church.
Where I come from, preachers don’t have filthy mouths and dirty hookups, let alone with a male country singer.
But Jensen has scars like mine. They just run deeper.
We can’t stay away from each other, though. One night turns into nearly every city of the tour; the two of us sneak around backstage, onto tour buses, and in hotel rooms. And while I’ve never been happier…I’m tired of hiding.
With Jensen, I might be able to escape the monsters from my past—even if the scariest one has just been set free. With Jensen, we can outrun our demons together.
With Jensen, I’m finally ready to come home.

Isaac has peaked my interest since first hearing about him in The Anti Hero, and he did not disappoint. I feel so much adoration towards him, how strong he was at just 17 years old and the life he built for himself. Seeing him back with his family, where he belongs, made it all worthwhile.
Jensen, what a man! I love how obsessed he was with Isaac (Theo) without even knowing him. His protectiveness of Isaac was absolutely adorable, and he ultimately just wanted to take care of him. His backstory was heartbreaking and I felt so much sympathy for him and anyone going through a similar situation. I am so happy he got the ending he deserved.
Teddy, Dane & Ava did an amazing job with bringing all of the characters to life. The emotion and heartache can be heard through their performances. They fit their roles perfectly.
Whether it’s a spicy scene, or an emotional one, Sara has such a way with words that makes you feel all of the emotions happening in the book. I appreciate that even though this book has some serious and deep moments, there are also little bits of humour thrown in, especially when the brothers come together.
What an amazing end to an amazing series.

It’s the 4th and final book in the Goode Brothers series, but the first one I’ve read. There’s history with their father that I’m assuming is discussed in previous books and while I didn’t feel lost not having read those first, I feel this book would have had a greater emotional impact if I’d read them in order.
*I appreciate the author not getting into specifics about what happened with the Goode patriarch so it doesn’t spoil things for readers who haven’t read the previous books yet.
This was such a moving story and so beautifully written. This book discusses a lot of complex, sensitive topics, which the author handles with thoughtfulness and care. Be sure to read the Author’s Note before diving in. Both Isaac and Jensen bear the weight of trauma, but their scars come from very different experiences that have shaped them differently. The way their histories are gradually revealed pulled on my heart strings and brought me close to tears several times.
The relationship between Isaac and Jensen is both beautiful and healing. Jensen comes across as the more mature and put-together one, the protective and caring partner. That made it all the more heartbreaking to learn that he’s actually the one carrying the heaviest burden – silently battling so much while feeling completely alone. Watching Isaac step up and be there for him in his most vulnerable moments was deeply emotional.
The narrators absolutely blew me away with their performance. Infinity stars! This book took me longer to get through because while I usually multitask when listening during the day, these narrators held my full attention. I couldn’t focus on anything else, so I ended up saving it for night-time when I was completely free. Teddy perfectly captured Isaac’s playful, carefree spirit, while Dane brought Jensen’s quiet, commanding presence to life. Ava was fantastic, especially in the scenes with Jensen’s mum. All three narrators skilfully conveyed the story’s wide range of emotions.
This is a story about love, acceptance, healing, and finding the courage to live your truth. It’s the kind of story that stays with you long after you’ve closed the book – raw, honest, and deeply affecting. I would definitely recommend reading this series in order for the most emotional impact, which is what I plan to do before rereading this.
Deeply emotional
