About this listen

From the Sunday Times Bestselling author Dr Amanda Brown

Revisit the wold of The Prison Doctor, as she describes stories of her time spent with foreign national prisoners.

DANGER. DEPORTATION. DEATH.

These are just some of the fates facing the inmates at
Huntercombe prison.

Some have fled their homeland in fear of their lives.
Others are being sent to a country they left decades
ago. But Dr Amanda Brown is doing all she can for each
patient stuck in no-man’s land. They have little or no idea
of what awaits them outside, but she treats them with
kindness and respect. Whatever their crime, and whatever
their future holds, she is still their doctor.

I have read all three of Amanda Browns books and this was my second favourite after the first book. It was an interesting insight into working as a doctor in a prison for foreigners, and the challenges faced. The narration was good, much better than the Women inside book in that it didn’t have all the weird accents in it. Overall a great book.

Nice book

I’m sorry to say that I didn’t enjoy this.

I’m not sure if it was the narrators voice, or the seemingly ‘try hard’ bits of narrative describing the world outside, between the actual stories.

Perhaps I’m just being picky, but I didn’t even engage particularly with the characters. If it had been more about their backstories, it might have painted a better picture of them which would have made me care more about their well-being.

Certainly within the length of a book one cannot devote too much time to each story, and I know it was really about the doctor and not about the characters, but I didn’t really engage with either.

I’m sorry that I feel like this because other people obviously didn’t feel the same. I struggled through to the end, although even the ending felt too superficial.

I’m sorry
