Critic reviews

"I've always been a Catherine Alliott fan, and this was an absolute joy. A delicious tangle of secrets and hidden desire. Alliott's heroines are always a delight - like Bridget Jones' posher cousin: a bit dizzy, but with a huge heart and a strong sense of what's right and what's important. And in this case, that's family. A complicated, messy, imperfect family and all the baggage that brings, all playing out in the most gorgeous setting. How I longed to live in the Pink House! It's a modern fairy tale of mistakes and the lengths we go to to pretend everything is perfect: wise, funny, glamorously chaotic and achingly romantic." (Veronica Henry)

Not her best book

I’d been waiting eagerly for her latest book, having read them all, sadly I was disappointed I almost gave up, I found the narrators voice quite pompous when orating older characters. The story line was very predictable. Sadly not your best book.

Disappointing

Was excited for the new CA, but sadly this didn’t deliver in terms of humour or storyline

Disappointed

Read every book that she writes. This one I did not enjoy, no real story until halfway through and even after that I could have stopped listening. No substance, nothing to make You want to keep listening lacked the fun and sparkle for me.

Not my favourite I’m afraid.

I was hanging out for Catherine Alliots next book but found this slow to start and boring. The narrator was weird sounding with male voices and it all sounded a bit old and pompous. Almost gave up but persevered as it was ok

Not Catherine Alliott’s best book

I usually really enjoy Catherine Alliot’s books but The Pink House was a bit of a disappointment. I found it a bit dull to be honest

Not as I expected.

I wasn't expecting this , it's very different to Catherine Alliots other books I've read. Much deeper. Alot of soul searching, and some of the characters are so horrible and spiteful. But it's very worth a listen , even if her husband sounds like a demented vicar.
All said , I enjoyed it and didn't take me long to get through. Some lovely moments in it .

Wonderful book

I love Catherine Alliott's writing style, always have, along with her focus upon characters. It is definitely fair to say that some of her novels appeal much more to me than others. This is likely to become a favourite, alongside The Old Girl Network, Going Too Far, and A Cornish Summer. Highly recommended.
