Editor reviews

A beautiful, ethereal voice sings from an unseen source in the grand Paris Opera House. A young chorus member hears it and believes it to be "the Angel of Music". The voice belongs, of course, to the Phantom of the Opera.

Inspiration to many adaptations - including Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 1986 musical - Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel is a classic twist on the tale of the beauty and the beast. Performed in a brisk American accent with faithful French pronunciations by Walter Zimmerman, The Phantom of the Opera gives its listeners an experience beyond what the length requirements of the musical or films can afford: a lengthy immersion into that mysterious French theatre and the minds of an optimistic young singer and her tragic and brilliant suitor.
