Summary

The perfect husband....

After a difficult pregnancy, Esther is grateful that her forward-thinking husband, Robin, offers to put his career on hold so that she can return to the job she loves.

The perfect father....

Robin flourishes in his new role of stay-at-home parent, but Esther finds leaving her daughter behind to go to work more challenging than she'd thought, and soon the imbalance in their relationship brings old tensions to the surface.

A perfect lie?

Then one day Esther arrives home from work to find Robin and Riley are missing. As the police investigate their disappearance, it becomes clear that nothing about this modern-day family is what it seems....

Was Robin the perfect father everyone thought he was? Or was it all a perfect lie?

Told through the dual perspectives of Robin and Esther, The Perfect Father explores the complex relationships between husband and wife, parent and child, revealing that nothing is ever as perfect as it seems....

Thoroughly enjoyed

Well written, well crafted, well read. Particularly liked Katherine Press. One of the best readers I’ve come across. A compelling listen.

Excellent Listen

I admit I was worried the book could be stereotypical but couldn’t have been more wrong. There are so many things going on you are hooked from the start. I have never read/listened to this author before but will definitely be looking out for her now.

Thought provoking

This is excellently written, and a very poignant storyline. I was kept on my toes from beginning to end, but good won out in the end. Superbly narrated.

Story ok, bit predictable, male narrator horrendous

Story ok enough for me to try another book by the writer but I would’ve enjoyed it far more if it weren’t for the male narrator (bizarrely other reviewers have spoken well of both narrators but he irritated me enough when he was speaking the male role but when he was in any female role he sounded like some sort of little Britain spoof character

The Perfect Father

Not the best audio book I've listened to but the story was ok and I'm glad I stuck with it. The narrators made it more enjoyable.

Brilliant story

This is the first time I have listened to anything by this author but it certainly won’t be the last. A really great book. So many twists & turns. Some listeners might feel that it is far fetched but I can assure you that there are husbands/partners out there just like Robin. The narration was amazing.

Different

This has been the season of books entitled Perfect X (you fill in the blank). It is a different story that starts very slowly, and slowly gains speed. The premise is very unbelievable, but I enjoyed the story.

RECOMMENDATION; READ IT

Sorry...

Sorry I had to read this book. I'm all for unlikable characters but wow this book just had no plot. Just two people treating each other like trash and a narration that tries to spin it into a thriller.

ALL KINDS of messed up! 👨💃👶 👩😈

Domestic & psychological thrillers are my drug of choice 💉, and I scrolled past this one several times. The reviews weren’t great, and I wasn’t in the mood for a gamble. I finally gave in (since basically NOTHING decent has been released lately), and I’m reasonably glad I did. These complicated, deep thinkers grab me, even if they are a little slow.

I don’t want to spoil any surprises (there’s a lot to unwrap 🎁), but I will say that this messed up, woeful tale somehow manages to be somewhat believable. The emojis in my title might give you a little clue 😉.

🎤 The narrators aren’t going to set the library on 🔥 with their talent reading of this book, but they are not at all annoying or hard to listen to. They did the job they were hired for well.
