About this listen

Winner of the British Book Awards, Lifetime Achievement Award, 2007.
Two supreme court justices are dead. Their murders are connected only in one mind, and in one legal brief conceived by that mind. Brilliant, beautiful, and ambitious, New Orleans legal student Darby Shaw little realises that her speculative brief will penetrate to the highest levels of power in Washington and cause shockwaves there.

Shockwaves that will see her boyfriend atomised in a bomb blast, that will send hired killers chasing after her, that will propel her across the country to meet the one man, investigative reporter Gray Grantham, who is as near the truth as she is.

Together, can they stay alive long enough to expose the startling truth behind The Pelican Brief?

It is a classic tale. The reader is excellent. I was gripped from the start to the finish.

Exciting and interesting

Good storyline but the added sound effects and music really detract from the plot. A disappointing listen

Awful 80s sound effects

I have been meaning to read this since I was a teenager and loved the movie. The story is sadly... of the period: very white, very manly, the one woman is gorgeous and everybody takes note of it. The very end is disappointing and unnecessary. But if you forgive all that you're left with a very exciting mystery.
This production is nice, I enjoyed the narrator and hated the unnecessary musical interludes.

Gripping thriller

this doesn't say so overtly but is a dramatisation of the book along with, frankly, annoying musical additions designed to add to the drama. Im disappointed I didn't look more carefully and buy the unabridged audio version
