About this listen

They watched Danilo Silva for days before they finally grabbed him. He was living alone, a quiet life on a shady street in Brazil; a simple life in a modest home, certainly not one of luxury. Certainly no evidence of the fortune they thought he had stolen. He was much thinner and his face had been altered. He spoke a different language, and spoke it very well. But Danilo had a past with many chapters.

Four years earlier he had been Patrick Lanigan, a young partner in a prominent Biloxi law firm. He had a pretty wife, a new daughter, and a bright future. Then one cold winter night Patrick was trapped in a burning car and died a horrible death. When he was buried his casket held nothing more than his ashes. From a short distance away, Patrick watched his own burial. Then he fled. Six weeks later, a fortune was stolen from his ex-law firm's offshore account. And Patrick fled some more. But they found him.

I loved the ending. The whole story had me captivated from start to finish. I would strongly recommend this to anyone with a heart.

His best ever book

I'm always in a rush when writing these reviews because generally I've been listening in the car on the way to work and want to write a review before I start. Today is no exception.

I loved this story, you start off knowing the bare bones of what has happened to Patrick and it's like listening to someone putting together a jigsaw piece by piece and eventually you can see what the picture is, but certain bits are still missing, not to be filled in until the very end.

The pace was well set, always leaving you wanting more and listening to just one more chapter.

The narrator is very familiar to me now and I have grown accustomed to his voices.

Overall 5 stars, if you have enjoyed any of Grishams other books you will love this.

Like listening to a jigsaw puzzle

The reason I withheld 5 stars is I found it hard to keep track of all the characters! The names were horribly complex and difficult. So many characters too. But the story was good as always with Grisham.

Good story - kept me hooked.

Hated the ending The performance was excellent but what a miserable ending. Left me feeling depressed. I don’t know if I can be bothered to read another Grisham
