Summary
Nine years ago her daughter was taken. And now she’s back.
Two-and-a-half-year-old Holly is playing happily in a pink, plastic playhouse, while her mother Rachel sips coffee and chats with a friend nearby. It should be an ordinary day for all of them. But, in the blink of an eye, it turns into every family’s worst nightmare.
Holly is taken by a stranger and never found.
Nine years later, Rachel is living a quiet life in Dorset. She’s tried to keep things together since the traumatic day when she lost her eldest daughter. She has a new family, a loving partner, and her secrets are locked away in her painful past...until one afternoon when Rachel meets a new school parent Kate and her teenage daughter Bella.
Rachel’s world is instantly turned upside down - she’s seen Bella before. She’d recognize that face anywhere - it’s her missing child. And she will stop at nothing to get her back...

I’ve most of Shalini Boland books. But “The Other Daughter”, is so thrilling. Full of twists and turns. I’m at the edge of my seat listening to it. It’s such a breathtaking story. I got confused at the end. I have to go back to it.
But I enjoyed it immensely. Well done Shalini. As the Narrator Katie Villa, she amazing 🌹

Excellent, riveting story with a huge twist!
I have read a few Shalini Boland books now and this is up there with the best.
There are lots and lots of books out there about missing children (detective novels most of them). This one appears similar to a lot of them in many ways, but in true Shalini style, it has a really novel twist at the end, and ends up turning everything you thought you believed about the book on its head. Suddenly your loyalties, which had all been with the central character, are turned upside down and you end up being sympathetic to a totally different person... Because she turns out to be the perp instead of the victim after all. Can't say any more without spoiling it, but it is very cleverly written.
I only have one issue with Shalini Boland. She's a great writer and I love her exotic name. But when they tell you it's the end of the book and they say "if you enjoyed this book by Shalini Boland..." they always pronounce her name "Shallony" with the emphasis on "shall". Surely this can't be right?! If her parents wanted to call her Shalini then how can it be pronounced Shallony? if her name is Shalini it should be surely pronounced Shal-ee-nee???? It's just basic grammar surely?! Sorry, but I always find it incredibly distracting when reading her books, thinking about this anomaly with her name . I find it so irritating when people spell their names one way and expect everyone to pronounce it a totally different way. Call me pedantic but there you are. It just gets on my tits.
