Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of The Nanny by Gilly MacMillan.

Seven-year-old Jocelyn Holt loves her nanny Hannah more than her own mother.

When Hannah disappears one summer night, Jo never gets over the loss.

Thirty years on, now a young widow with a daughter of her own, Jo is forced to return to her family home, and the mother she’s always despised, just as a skull is pulled out of the lake in the grounds. Could this explain her beloved nanny’s disappearance? What other secrets will that lake give up to the police?

Then an unexpected visitor knocks at the door. And Jo’s world is destroyed yet again as she’s forced to look back at what really went on that hot summer night when she was a child. And everything that’s happened since.

Sometimes the truth hurts so much you’d rather hear the lie.

Excellent!

An exhilarating story from start to finish. I can picture this as a film!
The narrators were brilliant and really brought the characters to life so much so that you could imagine exactly what they looked like.
I shall be looking for more books by this amazing author.

Enjoyed this very much

Despite the dodgy male voice and the American voices.
Clare Corbett as ever is just wonderful to listen too.
I only chose this - as C Corbett was narrating. I have chosen several titles this way and haven’t been disappointed! She seems to choose wisely as I have yet to listen to anything bad that she narrated. I shall look for more by this author. Oops I already have used a credit! Ha ha

Unexpected story

I enjoyed the story with several twists. I found the ending disappointing.
Sometimes found the dates confusing really had to concentrate. Listened during lockdown in spring 2020. And at this time somehow concentration not as normal!!

Distinctly average

I doubt I will remember this book! The characters were frustrating and unlikeable. Parts of the story line were just dropped and leave you wondering what the point of it was. Generally I enjoy a R&J bookclub read, but this was just so bland.

predictable

The storyline was predictable and I guessed the plot very early on. Characters were good. Narration excellent.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed this story for the most part, however I would've liked a bit more from the ending. It felt too abrupt. But on the whole I enjoyed the book :)

Brilliant!

What a complicated story this is. I liked the fact that the author gradually changes your mind about each character, such that those who start out likeable aren’t necessarily so by the end. All the narration was excellent as well. A perfect listen that I highly recommend.

Good story well written

Enjoyed this book immensely. Really absorbed the characters and loved the not too obvious twist.
