Summary

What if Princess Diana hadn't died in the Paris car crash in 1997? What if there had been no crash? What if she'd converted to Islam and married Dodi Fayed?

In this alternate reality, Prince William succeeds to the throne and his mother, Princess Diana, rejoins the Royal Family as a Muslim Queen Mother. Meanwhile, her grandson James, the next in line to the throne, is under the spell of a Saudi Arabian Princess who want him to convert and become the first Muslim King of England.

What if?

A good what if book! Rather interesting insights into the Islamic culture. Quite glad the what if never came to pass, very well narrated, manages to switch from male to female voices successfully 👌.

Lingers with you

This is a fun story, by someone who clearly is able to paint an immersive picture of the courts of the Arabic world. But what caught me about this story was how it stays with you and you find yourself looking at current day events and thinking how very easily it could have been very different - and in a completely different and unexpected way. I must admit, at first I'd been put off a bit by the subtitle, I'm not so interested in the Diana but this isn't really about her or even her legacy - it's an enjoyable love-story but one with very thought-provoking implications for how we might have seen this island country,

An interesting theory.

I highly doubt this would have been allowed to happen, it would have been stopped early on. Interesting idea still.

What would happen if she didn’t die?

I love Rogers book (especially as my husband appears to be a time traveller in one of them) and was not disappointed with this one. In this story we look at what would happen if Princess Diana had not died and has married Dodi Fayed. Add into the mix her Grandson who although next in line to the thrown wants to convert to Islam. This story defiantly makes you think and although I would hope in reality as a country we would not be so narrow minded I do feel that a lot of the issues and concerns raised in this book would still be prevalent if this was to occur. I really enjoyed the story and it certainly makes you think.

Another great listen. So believable

I listened to this book after listening to the first one in the series (they don't follow but are interlinked), it added to the background of the story and I was so intrigued to get more information which enhanced my understanding of the first book.

I could potentially understand how this could have happened remembering the hysteria when Diana died.

My only criticism, and this is selfish, is I wanted more of the story - I didn't want it to stop.

Can't forget to mention that the narrator just added an extra layer to the story.
I am following both author and narrator now.
I was given a free copy by the author in exchange for an honest review which I have done.

Mind blown on this one!

This book is a HUGE What If? How would the world be different had Diana not died? Not only that, the other questions I could myself asking is, how would have her sons have ended up with her around? Would they have married the same people? Would they still be close?

This book took me down a road I was not prepared for, but even after remembering that this book is a WHAT IF story, it was interesting to see how things could have been.

Seriously this book makes you think.

Where do we start with this one? Again, another great book from Roger Ley. This man can write a book that keeps you on edge from start to finish.
The main reason is that we can all imagine this happening, but he is the only one writing it down and making our brains work this hard to define fiction from reality. If this had happened, would we all be wearing burka's and changing our religion? Or would we be fighting against the trend?

It was a really good story, if a little short, but I enjoyed it immensely.
The narration was excellent, and the story was highly engaging. At no point did I think I could guess where the story was going, which was great.
I would highly recommend this book/audio and have done it to friends. I know I keep saying this about this author, but it's true, pick up his books and try them.

Craig Bowles is a great narrator, and this is my fourth book read by him. He did wonders with the characters. Easy to listen to. I did speed up the narration like usual to 1.3 on Audible.

Mind blowing!

This isn't my first encounter with the imagination of Roger Ley, and I assure you it won't be my last. I don't know where he gets his ideas from but I am so glad he writes them down. This story takes you on a journey you won't be expecting. I was listening with my politically correct head on, but my heart kept thinking, 'don't mess with the monarchy'. I was never sure who's side I was on, as I kept switching allegiance all over the place. Wonderfully narrated by the enormously talented Craig Bowles, this book will leave you with a lot to think about. I've listened to it twice now and I'll be revisiting it again. Clever, inspired and brilliantly executed - this is one not to be missed.

What If?

I will start my review by saying that this is the first book by this author I have ever read or listened to and to be honest I really had no idea how this story would go. I mean would the world be drastically altered if Diana had lived? Would the control the royal family held over her sons have been any less strong? I had always thought not really but in this well-constructed world, the answer is most definitely.

This book takes the royal family and the succession of an altered United Kingdom, one where Scotland has gained its independence in a direction I personally had never imagined. The author gives us an alternative near future full of intrigue and political manipulations, where the biggest issue for our leaders seems to be what religion the heir to the throne follows. Personally, I find the fact that the head of State is also the head of the Church of England to be rather outmoded now when the UK supposedly prides itself on being a multicultural nation and the Church of England only exists because Henry IIIV wanted to divorce his wife and marry his mistress, supposedly with the Church's blessing.

The insights and dark humour and well-defined characters both in the UK and Saudi Arabia certainly added to my enjoyment of this unusual, alternative near history the author presents us with. But just how far the powers that be will go to hold on to their stations and the status quo did come as a surprise.

The narration of the book by Craig Bowles was clear and concise and added to my enjoyment of this interestingly different story.

I was given this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review.
