The voices read by Anne Dover were very convincing and the story well read😌 with feeling.

I loved this author first for the Miss Bunckle series. Republished in print by Persephone; then available on Audible. But she also wrote many other books, and they’re just so evocative of the era.

They are also great plots. They just have the edge on Angela Thirkell because there is almost no childish conversation and no padding.

The narrator is as ever, faultless.

This book has a good; well plotted story and is just good old escapism, whilst still being very well written.

She did write rattling good, domestic stories.
