Summary
Addiction, pain, and explosive tempers are not exactly what you’d call the ingredients for a side-splitting comedy. Yet Steven Adly Guiguis has created a profane, hilarious masterpiece that earned a “hatful” of theatrical accolades in 2011, including a Drama Desk award for Outstanding Actor in a Play for Bobby Cannavale. Stars the original Broadway cast: Chris Rock, Bobby Canavale, Annabella Sciorra, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Yul Vazquez.
A 2011 Tony Award nominee for Best Play.

Chris Rock as Ralph D.
Bobby Cannavale as Jackie
Elizabeth Rodriguez as Veronica
Annabella Sciorra as Victoria
Yul Vázquez as Cousin Julio

Pure entertainment. Delightful to listen to
Just get it. You will laugh, cry and laugh some more. The performances are excellent- not one flat note to be heard. Fantastic script that is character driven and all focused on Jackie growing up. I really enjoyed this play and can't think of why anyone else wouldn't get a kick out of the characters, the plot and the themes in the story 👌🏾

Emotional Rollercoaster
I have listened to this dramatization many times. I have even invited my friends to listen to it with me because I enjoy it so much. It is a rollercoaster of emotions, which set you off having to listen to some load mouth crass women, central character, spouting off to her man and changing her tone to suit his answers. This sets the scene. It transcends to emotions from aggressive, explosive, loud mouth obscenities to threats, fearful anxieties and every emotion you can think of and - you are laughing at it! The actors are amazing at pulling off this story, so good in fact you can see them acting it out before your very eyes. You can feel every expression, visualise every guesture. Amazing talent, good story, with great twist in the tale. Fun to listen to. Well worth your money. Enjoy

Good Repetitive Good Night Story
At some point in my mid 40s I realized I actually still like both bedtime stories and performance narratives. In combination with great actors, realistic characters, and fairly good humor this story has become a favorite. It is for mature audiences which I appreciate and the vulgarity reminds me of my community. If you’re interested in dainty or classical theater you may want to pass on this one, but if you like grit and edgy storylines about everyday MFs prepare for a listen so fun you may find yourself “fiending” for more.

Definitely Worth the Listen
While it was entertaining and extremely interesting to see the relationships between the characters, I don’t think there was enough depth to warrant a 5 rating. Also, if you haven’t seen the show, as I haven’t, a few unspoken things which occur can be a bit confusing. I looked up the ending to get a fuller picture. The acting is superb as you’d expect from the strong cast. I love plays, used to read them all the time as a kid. For me, particularly given the length, it was definitely worth the time and the few dollars. I’d probably rate it a 4.5 overall
