About this listen
A story of friendship, love and what it means to truly live when, sometimes, it may seem easier not to.
Caitlan is convinced she's going to die. Two years ago she was a normal 20-something with a blossoming career and a plan to go travelling with her best friend, until a fatal car accident left her with a deep, unshakeable understanding that she's only alive by mistake. She deals with these thoughts by throwing herself into work, self-medicating with alcohol and attending a support group for people with death-related anxiety, informally known as the Morbids. But when her best friend announces she's getting married in Bali and she meets a handsome doctor named Tom, Caitlan must overcome her fear of death and learn to start living again.
Beautiful, funny and universally relatable, this story of hidden loneliness and the power of compassion and companionship reminds us that life is an adventure truly worth living.
©2020 Ewa Ramsey (P)2020 Allen & Unwin Pty LimitedAlmost dropped it a third of the way in, it was so boring. I re-read the review and gave it the benefit of the doubt that it would improve.
It didn’t.
It’s not a terrible book, I just didn’t care about the character and her ordeals. The romantic subplot was just too ideal to be true even that was mind numbingly boring, at times I wondered if love interest was imaginary.
I sped it up to 1.3 speed just to get it over with faster.
Narrator was mostly good, esp considering the psyche of the protagonist. Bit cringe when she was emoting a lot, and her pronunciation of “gone” as “gawrn” irritated me.
Recommend for YA readers who are less cranky and cynical than I am.
Eye wateringly boring.
