Summary

Since the death of his twin brother, Oliver’s caught between pleasing his fans and finding himself. Emery finds him first.

Emery has never felt more alone. Raising her daughter is both her pleasure and her pain as she struggles to hold on to her job as a bartender and keep a roof over their heads. With no one to help them - no support system - any unexpected expense or late bill could turn their whole world upside down.

Reeling from the death of his twin brother and bandmate, rock star Oliver Smith is trying to drink his problems away. Apparently he isn’t very good at it; they follow him wherever he goes. Also in hot pursuit are the paparazzi, who catch Oliver at his lowest low.

He could have walked into any bar in California, but he walked into hers. Emery helps Oliver lose the crowd, and they find themselves alone: two people whose paths are marked with loss and pain. However, they hold an unshakable hope for healing. They find solace together, but can their love withstand the world?

Critic reviews

“Cherry dazzles with this deeply felt friends-to-lovers contemporary...with its uncommon depth, Cherry’s story will elicit tears in some places, laughter in others. A stellar cast…Readers will be hooked.” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

I loved this book…

It was far from predictable and had some very relatable and likable characters.

The narration was excellent Ann the story was heartwarming, despite bringing me to tears on a couple of occasions.

Excellent Listen

Love the story and love the narrators. Hopefully we will see more of them in this genre. I think this is one of Britainy Cherry's best books so far. This book was much more relatable than some of the books that are out there right now. Can't wait to see what she writes next.

Poignant, beautiful, and tragic

Wow. Just WOW.

That was one of the most heartbreaking, yet beautiful, stories I have ever had the pleasure of reading.

It truely showcased the very best and the most horrific sides of humanity.

How someone so giving, so loving, so... selfless, could come from the most cold and unforgiving parents absolutely baffles me.

Oliver and Emery both have their battles, they both have scars. But, the beauty of their relationship comes through their support of each other—just as friends to begin with, before moving to more.
The songs, their music, their affection and connection, it was all so moving.

I'm going to be brutally honest. I HATED Emery's parents, alongside Cam. I just wanted to jump into this book and shake them.
They were cruel, calculating, and manipulative. Selfish, cold, and just... GRRR! Horrible humans.

There is so much to unpack in this book. A LOT of trauma, abuse, a lot of sad, but also, so much good.

I'm not going to go into anymore detail, as I don't want to give away too much.
However, I will recommend you have tissues nearby—perhaps some comfort food, or a therapist on speed dial —because you are in for one hell of a ride!

Jordan and James did an amazing job with narration.

Kindness can be healing

Just an act of kindness. Showing someone at their weakest point that you care enough to help and support can be healing. Healing not just to the receiving person, but also the three person giving.

I love BC books because the characters have real life problems and strength of spirit. Reading her books makes me feel good, and The Mixtape has several truly good people at its heart. Emery, Oliver, Kelly, Tyler, The Smith’s and Abigail. Bad things can happen to good people and good people can overcome bad.

Enjoyed the audio version, although the female narrator was not my favorite and hard to listen to at times.

Would devotedly recommend this story!!

Amazing.

Some authors know how to tell a story. This book is an unforgettable story of unconditional love and the different ways some families support, encourage and love their children. The Mixtape is a different kind of love story, it’s written in such a different way that no matter how much I try to guess in what direction the author is taking, I couldn’t figure it out until I get to what the author says. It tackles depression, rape and some aspects of religion, the author writes said subjects with respect and dignity. My love for author Brittany Cherry’s books grow each time she publishes a new book. The Mixtape is totally addictive, I can’t stop thinking about this beautiful story and the awesome characters. Reese is my absolute favorite character in the story she adds so much joy to the book. Bravo! Brittany Cherry for another amazing book.

Freaking Amazing

5+++++++ Stars

Nothing I say will describe how much I loved this book. This author takes your heart and breaks it and then she gently puts it back together again.

This book was that. Oliver went through the worst time in his life when he lost someone and nothing anyone could say could help him get over loss. He got stuck in his music and his head. Until the day he goes to a bar and meets Emery.

Emery had her own secrets. But she and her little girl was exactly what Oliver needed in his life. He needed their sunshine to find his way out 😊

It was surprising to me how much Emery had to deal with and yet she was so positive and so happy. She had so much to deal with but for her daughter she made it every day. I loved how she and Oliver connected with each other. But not everyone wants you to live happy. There always has to be that person who wants to take your joy. But Oliver this time was the strong one and he was the one who showed Emery how to step into the light.

I say again if you have never read this author before you are missing out. Amazing heartfelt stories that will touch your heart time and time again… This was my first narration of these two narrators but I really enjoyed their narration for this story. Will look out for more 😊If you not a romance reader then just pick up one of her books and you will know what other romance readers are talking about. I am a FAN for life with this author and I am so excited to see what is next up for her 😊 ♥ Now I am going to make my own Mixtape 😊

Predictable love story

The writing was good. The Story was 100% predictable for me but was still entertaining.
