Missed opportunity

I'm a huge fan of King but this left me disappointed. The audio is presented with a whole bunch of sound effects and voices panned in and out to make it seem like you are there.
The reality is that they should have just been faithful to the source material and presented it like a normal audiobook.
King's writing is so good it doesn't need gimmicks like this. The strange audio presentation is distracting and it doesn't add anything to the experience.
Maybe some people who prefer movies/find books too slow or something might find it to their taste, but if you don't like books, why are you on Audible.

An experience not to be missed

The Mist is one of the finest examples of binoral recording techniques I have ever listened too. Headphones are required which isn't stated in the description, hence why some have reviewed it negatively. It's one to keep in your archive though, just as a demonstration of the power of immersive audio. Very much recommended.

What?

This is staged as a performance with amazing sound effects. In reality when played on a car stereo most of the dialogue waqs unitelligable due to accents and production with occasional well ground out phrases. " what, do you mean the secret government facility?, something strange going on, we're getting out of here"
Which is what I did. The book is probably good.

Not as good as the movie.

One of the very rare occasions I'll say the movie was better than the book.
This is more of a audio performance rather than your standard audiobook, and the recording is terrible. As someone has pointed out, Stephen Kings wrtitting doesn't need sound effects and other gimmicks. On top of that, the levels are so off, it's almost unlistenable. I listen to my books in the car, one minute it's too low, next a huge bang will happen for no apparent reason, so you turn it down, next your right back to someone whispering and you can't hear a damn thing again.
I get the effect they're trying to go for, but it really doesn't work.
Save your credit, go for another King book.

A great short story but a sub par narrator

I have read this story before and was looking forward to the audio version. Not a fan. Perhaps the narrator needed a little more time to get into the story. I don't know but I was surprised at how the narrator made this story boring.
