Critic reviews

It is nothing less than a landmark in modern crime fiction
A world-class crime writer. One of the most astonishing plots of modern crime fiction. A triumphant conclusion to the trilogy [that] makes Iceland's pre-eminence in the crime genre even more marked
Is this the best crime writer in the world today? . . . He's truly a master of his genre
This is Icelandic noir of the highest order, with Jonasson's atmospheric sense of place, and his heroine's unerring humanity shining from every page
This is such a tense, gripping read
Triumphant . . . Other writers have explored the possibilities of telling a story in reverse; thus far only Ragnar Jonasson has rendered hindsight so heartbreaking
Jónasson takes us back to Hulda's origin story with a tale that combines his special talents for spinning a chilling and ingeniously constructed mystery and evoking the dramatic Icelandic environment
Triumphant conclusion. Chilling, creepy, perceptive, almost unbearably tense (Ian Rankin)
Jonasson's is a unique voice in this genre. The beauty of this trilogy is that each book enraptures us almost to the point of forgetting the future we already know. Brilliantly effective
Jónasson weaves his suspenseful tales together with remorseless logic up to a climax more nightmarish than the buildup

Thrilling indeed. Edge of seat. Made me feel quite edgy altogether. Great writing. Great narration. Is the grimness a cultural thing? I'd like to listen to another by this author but I'm not sure my nerves and the need for some positivism could take it!

Excellent but grim

Another one of these stories you cannot stop listening to! A gloomy with a twist.

Just finished this excellent novel ‘The Mist’ by Ragnar Jónasson. Tension builds up throughout the novel to an unusual ending. A stranger turns up at an isolated farm in Iceland. Is the female protagonist paranoid ? Is her husband’s calm demeanour more appropriate ? Is the stranger a nice guy ? How far would you go ? Read this fascinating piece of fiction and find out.

My rating 5/5. Highly recommended.

This is by far the best of the trilogy. I was gripped throughout. Sorry when it ended!

The best of the trilogy

The Natrator was a bit fast so it didn't create the right atmosphere but the story was really good and there were some unexpected twists. Audible got the order of the books wrong though and I ended up listening to them in reverse order, which was a bit annoying, however didn't spoil the enjoyment of the story.

Great Trilogy
