Summary

"The end of the world doesn't happen with a bang. It takes slightly longer than that but not by much. Research projects, Gross Anatomy class, tests, and fancy coffee drinks will cease to be important. The fight for her life will become the only thing that matters."

Reagan McClane is a prodigy med school student on the brink of a brilliant career, but the United States and the rest of the world are headed toward total economic and social collapse. And it doesn't take more than a few hours for mass crime, looting, and pillaging to spread across the country like a plague. A brutal attack at her university leads to a fight for her life before Reagan barely makes it home to the safety of her awaiting grandparents and sisters on their family farm in Tennessee.

Three sexy Army Rangers, one of whom is married to Reagan's eldest sister, will join the McClane family to build their farm into an impenetrable fortress that they will fight to keep, no matter the cost. Reagan will find that defending her hardened, scarred heart against ever letting anyone in again will prove even more difficult than survival as one Ranger, in particular, tries to invade it. The McClane Apocalypse is a story of love, survival, and the importance of family during the worst of times imaginable.

Really good story but not happy with narration

I really enjoyed the story which was well written and really descriptive. The characters were believable and the plot flowed well. My only issue, and I'm afraid it's a big one, is the narrator. It was like listening to a child reading from a book, which may have been ok if it only had 20 pages but not a book of this length.

weird

some misogynistic jokes spinkled in this book which is surprising as its a female writer. the story is good itself, entertaining and fun, but the whole “im not like other girls” behaviour from the main character was cringey and bland. Meh.

Horrendous delivery

it's not a bad novel, however the narration is terrible. Monotone delivery, mispronounced words. I've listened to less boring speeches about spreadsheets. Avoid!

Sad, so sad.

I am so disappointed, I am actually sad! The premise of the book was so great. But the delivery killed it. The audio-book version narration is horrendous. I do not know if it would've been better as a book on in's own... but from what I was able to hear in the narration the presentation of the story overall is lacking greatly. I waned to care for the characters as many of them are so good! So many plot twists are engaging, but die on arrival. I planned to go and see what the rest of the series is like, but to be honest after reading book one, I don't think I will suffer through the other 4 in the series. So, proceed at your own risk.
