Summary

From the best-selling author of While My Eyes Were Closed comes a powerful, emotional novel about how far we can trust those closest to us.

You can run from the past, but you can't always stop it catching up with you....

Alison is a marriage mender. Her job is to help couples who fear they have reached the end of the road. So when her husband's ex, Lydia, arrives on the doorstep demanding to see her son, Alison thinks she can handle it. But what Alison doesn't realise is that Lydia is the one person who has the ability to destroy their happy family. And sometimes the cracks run too deep to ever be repaired....

Gimme more

Can’t get enough of Linda Green! I just wish she could write books quicker as this one was finished with in three days. Everything she writes I devour! Anyway this book didn’t disappoint. Really gripping, one of my faves.

Half of story unnecessary

I am over halfway through listening to this book, but I really don't get why the 'consultation room' parts are necessary, it's just confusing with all the different people introduced and doesn't seem relevant at all. Maybe I am jumping the gun and it will all make sense in the end, if so I will re write my review, but at the moment, due to this I am barely clinging on to this book

Real and thoroughly enjoyable

A very real book with rich depths and storyline. Loved it and didn’t want it to end.

Boring characters

This started off okay but by halfway through I found the characters really dull. Emotional reactions were explained and justified without anyone ever actually reacting in a genuine way. The way all the crazy coincidences played out was predictable and boring. Everyone behaved well (or was immediately humbly apologetic and instantly transformed if they didn’t), everything was fair, everything worked out for everyone. It was altogether just too wishy washy for me.

Fantastic narration

It had me in tears at several moments. Really well written and lovely story - but the narration brought it to life.

Another lovely story

I really like how Linda Greene can build such great characters and how her story lines include many current social issues. lovely read.

Really enjoyable

Enjoyable, sad, happy, excellent narration and many likeable characters I could care about, right up until the final “twist” which I felt was completely unbelievable. There were some parts which I felt were unnecessary but neither of these really spoilt the larger story.

Good Listen

The story itself was lovely, but the ending needed more time. felt a bit rushed

Good storyline

Characters felt real
The changes to therapist sessions effective and amusing
The only downside for me was the ‘real’ mother revelation.
It was well read and enjoyable throughout .
