Although I find the narrator’s voice annoying, I did settle into the story and found that it had enough twists to keep me listening.

This is very well written and narrated, with an impressive aura of truth. However, it took at least half of the book to differentiate and remember the unfamiliar German and Yugoslav names. But the story was compelling enough for me to persevere and I'm glad I did.

I have now listened to four books in the series. It is interesting to follow how an ordinary policeman before the war copes with the changes as his country goes to war. The details in the story are obviously well researched, and really help you imagine how things were at the time.
My only minor criticism is that the stories feel a bit too long.

Too much detail and not enough action for me - I’m afraid I lost interest before the real action started. Perhaps more of a reflection on me than the book!

This has a good plot but it struck me that there were many unnecessary twists and tangents. It had me thinking, more than once, will this story ever reach an end?

The narrator, while good overall, had difficulty with achieving vocal separation between characters and on many occasions I was left wondering which of those people involved in a particular scene was actually speaking.

Hopefully, Luke will discover the merit of brevity in his future novels.
