The Lost Girls is a dark and twisty supernatural thriller, perfect for fans of Stephen King and Neil Gaiman.

Edinburgh student, Rose MacLeod, has been losing time for as long as she can remember. Days and weeks disappear, leaving terrifying gaps in her memory. Now she is seeing horrifying visions; waking nightmares of violence and death. Around the world young women like her are being killed and Rose has a ringside seat. Mal Fergusson was raised to hunt demons across Scotland. With his father dead and his brother in a coma, he no longer believes in the grand battle between good and evil. Instead, he scrapes a living as an investigator and hitman for the supernatural Mafia of Edinburgh. Tensions are rising in Scotland’s capital and Mal must capture Rose to keep his demonic boss sweet – but is he really willing to harm an innocent to do so?

“A thrilling tale that compelled me throughout. A perfect read for all of Sarah's fans old and new, but also for fans of Helen Slavin, Anna McKerrow, Neil Gaiman, Ben Aaronovitch and Laura Laakso.” - LISAREADSBOOKS©2019 Sarah Painter (P)2019 W. F. I usually like this author, but the narration is so bad, I cannot connect. It is like she is reading a list, no attempt to differentiate between characters, no space between paragraphs or chapters. Intriguing story , try reading yourself.

I think it is an interesting story, but the narration spoils it

This book is full of enigma, twisted realities and juxtapositions of realities that grab your attention and prevent you from stopping listening. It’s WOW. I’m not sure even now if I love it or hate it, all I know is that it fascinates me.
The things I love about it are: The concepts of alternative reality. The twists in storylines. The juxtaposition of worlds within worlds and the concept of a wider universal reality.

Amazing concept of an alternative universal reality.

I’ll start by saying I really enjoyed this before I get picky. I’m not sure if this isn’t aimed at Young Adults and if the ideas had gone into an adult novel it could have been even more intriguing

An easy read

I enjoy Sarah Painter's books. She creates cosy, comfortable supernatural worlds, weaking folktale and superstition into gritty everyday, ordinariness. I do wish the recording artists of some of the books were better advised on pronunciation, though. inIn this book, the mispronunciation of the name Aisling is a big distraction and irritation. Otherwise it's a good story and a good read.

Author creates a fascinating supernatural world

Going to buy the paperback as I am really into the unfolding story but I just cannot get past the narration. I can’t put my finger on it really and tried different speeds but I keep blanking big sections and having to rewind, as it’s so monotone. And I wince every time they say ‘Aisling’ . I’m stopping on chapter 5 and moving to a paperback instead.

Gutted as the story seems great but narration…
