Summary

The only true and unedited telling of the life of Christ - his life and times in historical context, but not lacking the psychology behind his physical being and spirit. Unlike other books seeking to strip Jesus' story to reveal only the human being, Romano Guardini's The Lord gives the complete story of Jesus Christ - as man, Holy Ghost, and Creator. Pope Benedict XVI lauds Guardini's work as providing a full understanding of the Son of God away from the prejudice that rationality engenders. Put long-held myths aside and discover the entire truth about God's only begotten Son.

Helpful insights

Although rather long I enjoyed hearing Guardini's thoughts. I felt like I was taking a wonder through the gospels with someone who knew them well. I was enthused by his passion for sharing the Good News, which has nourished, informed and directed his life.

Thoughtful and thorough

This is a long book but comprised of lots of much shorter meditations on the life and mission of Jesus Christ. Covers a vast area of theological issues and well worth getting for the aid of personal reflection.

We need Guardini today more than ever

Romano Guardini is one of my favorite Catholic authors and I return to his books often. His work is always thought-provoking, profound, and practical. I am working my way through THE LORD once more as we begin Lent tomorrow.

The book is an extraordinary treasury you're sure to return to again and again. It is far too rich a resource to be read only once. This is a work of profound theology, yet it is never dry or dull. It was one of Guardini's gifts to make the complex more easily understood while never compromising the truth.

I appreciate having it on audio to accompany the print book. In fact, you might want to get it on Kindle or in print to make your study easier because of the many Bible verses referenced throughout the book.

I recommend THE LORD to every Catholic, along with Guardini's THE ART OF PRAYER, which is one of the most beautiful books I've ever read on the subject. God bless you.

Of the thousand or so books I've read this one is a top ten! It opened my eyes to a new way of seeing Jesus. Content and performance are excellent!

The Lord

A fantastic way to study scripture. It all leads to Revelation and is the best commentary and reflection I have ever seen.

Masterpiece!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Lord to be better than the print version?

Only had the audio version but this book is so important, I now own the book as well.

What did you like best about this story?

This classic provides short meditations (about 20 minutes) on the life of Christ - motivational and inspiring. Although the length is intimidating, once you start listening, you will know you have discovered a treasure. I finished it during Lent, helping me draw closer to the Lord, and plan to keep it on my phone for periodic re-listens and plan to listen again in its entirety next holy season.

Any additional comments?

Narration is wonderful. Although ideal for 20 minutes listens given the short chapters, Gordon Greenhill's voice does not tire allowing for much longer listens.

The best book I have ever read about our Lord

The narrator, Gordon Greenhill, did such a fantastic job of putting us in a intimate class room scenario where only the subject matter was carefully being dismember a bit at a time void of our surroundings. The author, Romano Guardini, presented an idea that can only help us understand our Lord and trash rational doubts that only hinder our progress towards our full understanding of Him.

Spectacular handling of a controversial subject

Undoubtedly the best unraveling of Revaluations as the climax of a very insightful handling of our Lord and why His purpose had to be as it unfolded. Excellent!!

Mind Changing

Would you listen to The Lord again? Why?

Yes, the depth of the theology was incredible, and told so very well.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Lord?

Mnsgr. Guardini at one point indicates that the Incarnation is inconceivable, but writes "bur Love does such things." This statement was life changing to me.

What does Gordon Greenhill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is a very good reader, but I had to listen at 1.25 speed to make it sound more "natural"

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Mnsgr. Guardini at one point indicates that the Incarnation is inconceivable, but writes "bur Love does such things." This statement was life changing to me.

Excellent insight to the word of God

It was very easy to listen to the audible presentation of this text. I look forward to listening to this audible book again with my Bible in hand. The author illustrates a deep understanding and love for the word of God throughout this work.
