About this listen

The instant Sunday Times bestselling debut novel

This audiobook contains an exclusive Q&A between Sheila Atim and the author.

ONLINE RUMOURS. REAL LIFE TROUBLE.

Ola Olajide, a high-profile journalist, is marrying the love of her life in one month's time. Young, beautiful, successful – she and her fiancé Michael seem to have it all.

That is, until one morning when they both wake up to the same message:

‘Oh my god, have you seen The List?’

It began as a list of anonymous allegations about abusive men. Now it has been published online. Ola made her name breaking exactly this type of story. She would usually be the first to cover it, calling for the men to be fired. Except today, Michael’s name is on there.

With their future on the line, Ola gives Michael an ultimatum to prove his innocence by their wedding day, but will the truth of what happened change everything for both of them?

Good performance and amazing story. Phenomenal pacing and I really enjoyed the whole book. Was never bored

Very good

Overall, I really enjoyed this book as I think it’s a very topical issue in today’s social media age! Loved the two perspectives on things, but I do think the writer could have gone a little deeper in terms of character development. There were no real surprises/twists in the story line and the ending lacked creative imagination. It was more of a typical soap opera ending! However, all in all, this was a great read/listen and it really speaks volumes as to how “cancel culture” and what we believe on the internet can be very destructive.

Nothing mind blowing… but an enjoyable listen

Definitely one of the best stories I’ve listened to! My family are glad I’m finished as they can stop hearing about Ola and Michael and all my theories ! 🤣 can’t wait to check out other work by the author and I must say the narrators both did a wonderful job, really really enjoyed this!

I loved this.

I cannot recommend this enough! Yomi weaves such a compelling story with complex and flawed characters that will keep you questioning until the last line. My book of the year!

One star deducted for the convenient ending which involved a character that had not been mentioned at any point in the story previously. Overall, a good story which interrogates the issue of cancel culture and challenges readers to consider different perspectives.

Minus 1 star for the ending
