Story
Arethusa Clayton has always been formidable, used to getting her own way. On her death, she leaves unexpected instructions. Instead of being buried in America, on the wealthy East Coast where she and her late husband raised their two children, Arethusa has decreed that her ashes be scattered in a remote corner of Ireland, on the hills overlooking the sea. All Arethusa ever told Faye was that she grew up in a poor farming family and left Ireland, alone, to start a new life in America, as did so many in those times of hardship and famine.

Wonderful story! Loved every minute!
I imagined that I was there in beautiful Italy! Wonderfully detailed descriptions of the scenery- it made a dull day in Devon turn into a warm & balmy one in sunny Italy! The characters were well written & believable. Loved how the characters lives were linked & developed. A beautiful story that makes you laugh, dream, reminisce & cry. Feel bereft now it’s finished!! Just downloaded another of Rosanna’s books. Narrator was absolutely brilliant!

21st century Mills and Boon
I chose this book because it is set on the Ligurian Riviera. It is shallow, predictable and sickly. As soon as I started it, I wished I’d researched it more before purchasing. 15 hours of mills and boon. Oh well. Live and learn.

Eat pasta while you listen for an authentic taste
This story took a lot of listening to get any momentum. I’m realising to write a compelling, engaging tale is incredibly difficult. It got there in the end . Quirky food critics descriptions dotted everywhere making it very Italian comic cook book , irritating repetitive re enforcing of story line that was most unnecessary . Needs editing. The ending was most interesting and real!

Long and tedious
I really should have returned this book. But i kept waiting for something to happen and then hours in i realised it was just going to plod on to its conclusion. The story was weak and involved mainly people repeating themselves about whether to embrace love or not. The most happened in the last half an hour of the book. I suppose you could be kind and say it’s a gentle story - but for me - I need more of a story to get my teeth into. Oh I wish I had returned it!!!!

The Lemon Tree Hotel
What a wonderful story. From the beginning to the end, and what an ending, I could not put it down. I really felt that I was there in that beautiful place. I recommend anyone who listens to this book will be moved by the lives of the family with the problems they have to face. I must mention the food being prepared for the guests staying in the hotel - delicious! Thank you for writing about this beautiful area of Italy and the narrator was excellent.

How could anyone not love this story...
I saw this on a 2 for 1 deal. Never heard of the author before, but I'm so glad I listened to it. it has to be in my top 3 books EVER. The narrator was also excellent. From start to finish it kept me engaged and wanting to listen to it every spare moment. The description of the people, their lives, the hotel, its surroundings, the recipes, everything, made me want to visit this magical place. It would make an excellent film.

Soap opera
The Italian setting is so beautiful I thought I could endure the typical dragged out romance and emotional drama of soap opera-type books. I had hope that with the beautiful setting and the hotel being a former convent for nuns - that the writer would bring a balance of interesting plot points and details to the book. There WERE a few interesting plot points but the preponderance of the book is emotional issues and dialogue. I guess that's what some people want - not me.

Painfully slow and redundant
I love Italy so much that I can listen to just about any book set there, but this was painful. The endless retrospective questions, the “lemon tree hotel” mentioned a billion times, the Constant redundancy, was just too much.

Slow, boring & ridiculous plot
This looked like my kind of story - light, interesting setting and characters with a love story or two mixed in. It has some of that, but the book is WAY longer than it needs to be, and the plot is very slow in the beginning; when it finally does get going, it’s so implausible and ridiculous, and the characters are so flat that I was sorry to have wasted my time!
