Story
When the end of the world arrived, it came not with a bang, as most expected, but with more of a "pfft" instead. Humanity has been torn asunder and brought to the edge of total annihilation in less than an hour. For those who died, it was a quick death, so fast that their brains didn't have time to process the pain signals from their nerves. For those who survived, the true horror is about to begin as they struggle to not only stay alive, but come to grips with the shocking realization about what - and who - was responsible.

okay book but not very plausible
on the first book pulse, it was fairly well written but not very plausible nor well-researched. it's hard to imagine somebody that's been prepping for most of their life only having a pistol or two for protection. the protection prepared for by Ethan is about what I would have expected for a city boy who's total crabs included an extra week of groceries. the other primary implausibility factor was repeatedly letting the bad guy walkaway. Charlie and Ethan have the blood of dozens if not hundreds of people on their hands. every victim the bad guy after their first couple encounters is at least in part their fault. on the second book in this collection the author has no clue about the subject she is writing on. she might be a great author and other genres oh, I don't know, but she doesn't know anything about human nature after a shtf event and nothing about an EMP. while an EMT may not destroy the solar panels on a system oh, it would surely Wipe Out the charge controller and inverter. also on the solar system issues in this book, taking out one panel would not immediately shut off your power. if it did, then you obviously have no battery storage and therefore have no lights and no power at night. for the narrator, believe it or not, not every male sounds like a southern gang member on drugs.

Interesting Perspective of an Apocalypse
I received this book in exchange for my honest review. Prior to reading this, I had never considered the possibility of an EMP or its devastating effects on society. Whether realistic or not, this set of books made me think about how I would handle life without electricity, cell phones, or resources we all take for granted in our everyday lives. I liked that the two books explored the same event from two totally different perspectives. The characters in both books are well developed and relatable. I thought the narration was pretty good (although I admit I sped it up to make it flow a little better). Overall I think the plot is engaging and enjoyable. I would recommend this set to anyone that likes books that explore a world after a catastrophic anomaly.

Dreadful narration, poorly researched story
The description sounds very interesting, but this narration requires a lot of patience to listen to. I did not make it through the whole story, but it is clear from the parts I did read that the authors don't know a lot about their subject matter.

The Last Stand/ The Pulse:EMP Post Apocalyptic
I wasn't aware that where "The Last Stand" ended another book "The Pulse:EMP Post Apocalyptic Fiction" started. I enjoyed "Last Stand", as I wonder what would actually happen after a EMP strike by an enemy of the United States, which I believe is a true possibility. My only criticism is that I wish the story ended too early. I was hoping to hear the writer's ideas on how these ordinary law abiding citizens continued to survive in a post EMP world. The second book "The Pulse:EMP Post Apocalyptic Fiction" started rather abruptly, but then took way too long, developing some interpersonal relationships, to get into the issues and dangers the two main charters ran into in their attempt to survive. Frankly I was too bored to complete the story.
