Better than average psych thriller

I particularly enjoyed the first part of this book with the two main characters having very different views on the state of their marriage, I thought this was clever and had me hooked. I felt that the middle lost pace a bit and became a bit repetitive however the end was satisfying if a little predictable. The narration was good and suited the characters giving the listener a good sense of them. I would certainly look for other books by this author.

Good listen

Well I genuinely enjoyed it! Twists were good and for once my suspicions were right!
Wish there was a guy to read Alfie chapters, but other than that, I liked the audiobook

Excellent Thriller to really get your teeth into!

I took ages reading this brilliant thriller as just so enjoyable with tongue in cheek humour from the anti-hero which made it such a well rounded read. So many twists and turns and so very tightly plotted - hats off to Alex Lake whose books I will be grabbing more of asap.
So many thrillers now adays seem so sloppily written with huge plot holes you could drive a tank through, it make you wonder if editors still exist - but this brilliant thriller is the exception, as not only so skilfully written but so much attention to detail that no loose ends are left hanging.
Every evening my husband would ask what had happened the last time as he too was intrigued and enamoured with the fabulous story, great characters, skullduggery and double dealings and first class mystery in it all and it gave is many laughs discussing.
Highly highly recommended, a first class thriller and so engaging and entertaining - 6 stars!

An average listen for me

This book was ok, it was really easy to listen to, narration was good but the story itself was just ok.

If you want something quick that you can switch off to then have a listen. But if you want a good thriller I would look elsewhere.

My First Alex Lake Book- Awesome!

I had never heard of Alex Lake. I am so glad and fortunate that I now have listened to The Last Lie, and I will be seeking other books by Lake.

This story kept me engrossed until the very end.

A seemingly happy couple is having problems conceiving a child, and things are getting to the point where they need to see a fertility doctor. But, hubby has a big secret in the fertility department. In fact, he has a big secret in general. The story is told from the husband's point of view in the first half of the book, and then it switches to the wife's point of view in the second half.

I hung on the edge of my seat and I so enjoyed Lake's style, along with the story. Highly recommended, especially for those who like psychological thrillers!

Plot Twisting, Mind Mixing Who-Done-It

Alex Lake has written a superb mystery novel. I knew it was about an evil husband and unsuspecting wife, but the story takes a wild turn in the middle. From there on, plot twists abound until the end.

Excellent retelling of a common theme. I especially enjoyed the Audible version!

banal with one dimensional characters

This story was dreadful. The characters were undeveloped, boring, one dimensional caricatures. The dialog for the "evil" husband was downright eye rolling and repetitive. If I had to listen to him say “stupid b**ch” one more time, I was about to scream. The plot twist was SO obvious! Seriously, I could see it a mile away. I fast forwarded through the last hour of the book - I just could not take it anymore. The entire book is a cliche. The narrator was good. I really do not understand the good reviews of this one. Don’t waste your money on this

A little predictable and drawn out, but overall enjoyable. Characters, Claire and Alphie are both evil geniuses.

Really unbelievable child like wife.

Narcissist meets sociopath oh wait which one is which. I could not put up with the wife for almost half of the book so back it went. If you can suspend your disbelief for the whole book than you will like this book. If you want to read about believable people and how they cope this book is not for you. Arlene a Audible reader .

Twisted & Delicious

A twisted domestic thriller (which are among my favorites). You won't be disappointed. See if you can figure it out before the story ends.
